Whoever believes you can't learn a lot from children is WRONG. In fact, one thing I learned from my 8 year-old sister was that if we visited grandma more, she would stop aging.Of course childhood logic doesn't always make the most sense, so I never gave much thought to her naivety until one day she came home and asked me a question that forever changed my way of thinking. She asked - If I had not been born Bulgarian, would I be a refugee ? At that moment I looked at her bewildered and tried to comfort her by saying she will never be a refugee because I will always be there for her. She smiled, thought for a sec and said - then why is noone there for them ? Refugees – such an important issue, yet so sensitive to discuss. Malala Yosefzai says : “One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change our future. “Let us all use our pens to make our deeds remembered, let us write the book of history together, let us all teach each other unity and let us all learn from our children. _________________________________________________________________________ When my sister asked me about refugees I, like everyone else, relied on my instinct for self-protection and chose to comfort her rather than acknowledge the problem. But what I admired most in her at that moment was that she didn’t settle for the assurance she will never be a refugee, she became even more concerned for those who were not as privileged. And do you know what was my response to the question why was there no one for them ? I responded - that there is, and that someone is SHE because at the end of the day, age, gender, religion,status in society doesn’t matter when your effort to help can be their chance, their chance to live. You can learn a lot from children. I
