The setting in “Saturday Climbing” helps illustrates the theme. The main theme in the short story “Saturday Climbing” is trust. Rock climbing is a very good setting for the theme because rock climbing requires a lot of trust in your partner. One must trust their partner to watch their back, and find the clear path. It is also to hold the security line when one falls. In the beginning of the short story, Barry was a very controlling father and did not want to let go of his daughter.
