Should Attendance to Classes be Mandatory in College?
A mandatory class in college has always been a debated subject. A large number of universities across the world have been tightening their policies when it comes to attendance (Friedman, Rodriguez & McComb, 2001). Professors are of the view that students should attend all classes so that they would be able to teach them in a more direct manner. It is due to the difficulties involved in regulating attendance in universities like in schools; most colleges and universities prefer to give this authority to professors (Andrietti, 2014). There are also differing opinions and perspectives among professors when it comes to attendance policies with many of them recommending the need to make it compulsory. Attendance should be made mandatory keeping in view the number of students who are performing poorly and for helping them in achieving better grades.
Skipping classes can lead to failing the course. Attending to classes is the most productive and speediest approach to obtain aptitude from your teachers. Attending classes is an indication that the student is taking interest in class lectures. There

Moreover, The analysis has shown that more benefits in academics and long-term learning are achieved through achieving effective levels of classroom attendance. It has been found that mandatory attendance is a mechanism that leads to more opportunities for learning, discussion, and being able to attain higher grades through superior classroom participation. It can also be concluded that awarding higher makers for participation is a better strategy for classroom attendance when coupled with the need to attend mandatory classes. More research should be done on this area in order to develop more effective measures for the purpose of promoting classroom
However, where the achievements of the whole class matter more than the individual. Schuman shares her personal experience of teaching and dealing with different kinds of students in hope that her intended audience will learn a lesson of the importance of class participation. Her views are very instructive, truthful, and encouraging to all college students. The article was elegantly well written by Schuman, who directed college student how to take part in the course and benefit from it.
This is in fact not true. Juniors and Seniors with failing grades are forced to stay for study hall each day while there piers are going home. Study hall provides them with the extra time they need to get their work done in order to raise their grades. Juniors and Seniors must continue going to study hall until they have raised their grades .
It has been proven that many individuals find it difficult to determine if attending class should be mandatory or not. Many argue that as long as the student is doing well on the assignments and understanding the information, he/she should not be required to come to class. There are also many counter-arguments that say that one should be required to come to class no matter what. In his article “‘A’ is for Absent”, Chris Piper wants his audience to believe that attendance should not effect grades due to the fact that if a student can pass without coming to class, he/she should pass without being questions about their attendance.
Do you think college is worth its cost? In an everyday society technology is changing every minute. College education will make sure that young adults are prepared for the new world and the challenges of working and being responsible citizens. Learning is always worthwhile. According to Rebecca Mead, staff writer for The New Yorker, college teaches students, "to nurture critical thought; to expose individuals to the signal accomplishments of humankind; to develop in them an ability not just to listen actively but to respond intelligently;" all of which "are habits of mind…from which a letter carrier, no less than a college professor, might derive a sense of self-worth."
Why College isn 't Worth the Cost When you grow up, you get pressured into believing that college is the only way to succeed. However, there are other options unless you want to waste your time and money on something that you 're not so sure about in the future. College is not worth the money you’re supposed to pay for. College isn’t worth the cost because many students do not complete college, College is expensive and there is no time for a job, you can achieve your goals without college With the right mindset and motivation, you can achieve any of your goals without going the complicated way.
As the school year comes to a close and the only thing on a senior’s mind is how are they going to pay for college? Throughout our high school careers we always get asked what our plans are after high school and never how are you going to pay for that next step of your life after high school. We barely get prepared for the real world in high school we are forced to take classes the school thinks will be good for us not what we think or what will be best for what we want to study for in college. How are high schoolers supposed to be able to pay for college when they don’t get prepared enough in high school to go on to that next level of schooling and have to more than likely go into debt just to be able to pay for it. Colleges should no longer cost an insane amount of money to go there.
In today society, people are easily looked by their college degree level and they can be judged by their degree. But not everybody can afford to go to college in order to get a degree. People have different reasons of not going to college but most of the reasons are because of the tuition. Tuition are too high and they can not afford it. If the free college situation does not make a great effect on the economy, I believe that college should be free because free college can encourage more students to go to college, earn a degree and can decide on their future without the worry of paying debt and contributing to create a better society with their knowledges.
Furthermore, students need to participate actively in order to receive participation points. Be respectful to other student’s opinions and views, not everyone will have the same opinion on a subject that some students do. Show your teacher the proper attention while she is teaching, students miss out on useful information while doing other things during class. Secondly, do your work, assignments are all laid out for students in the syllabus and if you know you will not be able to show up to class work on the assignments ahead of time.
I’m pretty sure most people hate getting up super early in the morning to get to school. Am I right? Well I think it’s the worst! In my opinion, I think school should start later because it is better for one’s health and it’s better for students’ concentration in class.
Students shouldn't have to pay for college, should they? No they shouldn't. Many smart kids who are more likely to succeed have little money and cannot afford college. More kids would go to college, also students would have more freedom to choose what they really wanted to do.
Although college is stressful and time consuming , having your dream career, is a huge life achievement. Having a job isn’t the same as having a career “I've learned that making a 'living' is not the same thing as 'making a life”(Maya Angelou). If you sell yourself short by not going to college you’ll end up working just to make ends means not because it's what you enjoy doing, it's due to your family counting on it. Those who go to college will end up having a better future than those who don’t. I agree that going to college is more beneficial because my view on the topic states that in order to have a secure and clear future you must go to college.
Students should not be allowed to select their own classes because they would just pick the classes with friends in them not the classes they need to learn. Students would just pick classes to be with their friends and would just mess around all day instead of actually learning. “Subjects are introduced at school level so that students learn about the importance of each subject and the role it plays in our day to day activities(science, maths, history, geography etc).” (Vipul Agawane, Quora.)Students should not be allowed to select their own classes because they would just pick the classes with friends in them and no the classes that they actually need to learn. Schools could easily fix the problem of students choosing classes with friends in them by adding more than one teacher teaching that subject and by picking the students in each class randomly.
Universities and Colleges Should Be Free to Attend These days, receiving a post-secondary education depends on the numbers in your bank account rather than the numbers on your report card. Universities and colleges should be free to attend because everyone should have an equal chance to learn and the amount of debt they have after finishing university or college is significantly high. The equality of learning at a post-secondary school is non-existent. Everyone should have an equal chance to learn at the level they deserve, no matter how much money they have. Studies show, “Among those not attending their first choice college, sixty-two percent said they could not afford to attend it and twenty-five said their first choice school didn’t not provide them with any financial aid” (Lucie Lapovsky).
Attending class is important so I don't miss any assignments and get behind. Being in class is important because its proven that students are more likely to succeed when they have an good attendance. I do much better in school when I don't miss a lot of days. It is very easy to get behind in class when I don't show up. I do miss a lot of school because of sickness but I am going to try and go even when I don't feel good.
It also is a great way to get close with the professors. By not showing up, you will gain that advantage. Some professors give out participation points. A student 's grade can slip when they do not attend class due to a of lack of participation. Also, it is a good idea for students to sit in the front of the class.
