Should Attendance to Classes be Mandatory in College?
A mandatory class in college has always been a debated subject. A large number of universities across the world have been tightening their policies when it comes to attendance (Friedman, Rodriguez & McComb, 2001). Professors are of the view that students should attend all classes so that they would be able to teach them in a more direct manner. It is due to the difficulties involved in regulating attendance in universities like in schools; most colleges and universities prefer to give this authority to professors (Andrietti, 2014). There are also differing opinions and perspectives among professors when it comes to attendance policies with many of them recommending the need to make it compulsory. Attendance should be made mandatory keeping in view the number of students who are performing poorly and for helping them in achieving better grades.

Moreover, The analysis has shown that more benefits in academics and long-term learning are achieved through achieving effective levels of classroom attendance. It has been found that mandatory attendance is a mechanism that leads to more opportunities for learning, discussion, and being able to attain higher grades through superior classroom participation. It can also be concluded that awarding higher makers for participation is a better strategy for classroom attendance when coupled with the need to attend mandatory classes. More research should be done on this area in order to develop more effective measures for the purpose of promoting classroom
