Should Casino Gambling Be Legalized In The United States?
Casino gambling has been a controversial topic all around the United States for many, many years now. States other than Nevada and New Jersey have had conflicting ideas about gambling and whether it should be legal in their states. Although casino gambling is still a debated topic in the US, internet casino gambling has grown due to the mass increase of home computers within the last few decades. Ever since the arrival of online gambling, US Congress and legislature have not changed the viewpoint on gambling itself, as internet casino gambling is illegal in many states of the US. However, there are people that are fighting for the legalization of online gambling, and believe that the future of internet casino gambling is a bright one. Many …show more content…
Casinos throughout Las Vegas and Atlantic City have their own resorts for their guests to stay in while they gamble in their casinos. Because of this, some casino companies, such as Wynn Resorts, see internet gambling as a threat to the revenue that they receive from their guests by reducing casino attendance (Meier). However, while realizing this fact, these companies still feel that internet casino gambling is the future of their companies and that must support the legalization of it. While looking at the Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics, internet casino gambling should have no violations of those rules if the casino companies properly protect and secure their services. However, under the judgement section of the ACM Ethics Principles, it states that software engineers must not engage in deceptive financial practices, which one could argue that gambling does violate this. In my own experience, I have never engaged in online casino gambling, although my relatives have done so. My uncle uses Pokerstars as a quick and easy way to have fun playing cards while also having a chance to win money without being on vacation at a casino. As long as internet casino gambling is done in consideration, it can continue to improve and look for its legalization by the US
