Phones Allowed in School Did you know phones can be used for educational purposes? Many students have phones and bring them to school, so why not allow them to be used? Cell phones were banned in schools because they thought it was related to drugs and gangs. As phones got smaller and easy to text, many more teens got them. Teachers began to worry about cheating and disruptions from phones in class.
Many students are happy when they use their phone. In a 2005 study by Sonja Lyubomirsky it showed that students that were happy were more productive than students that weren 't happy. A second reason is that schools are preparing kids for their jobs. WHen you have a real job, you can use a phone all you want! If schools are preparing kids for jobs then why not let them use phones?
Do cell phones in class actually have such a huge impact on learning as educators say they do? Is it really relevant to ban cell phones at school? Do we really have to ban something which was already part of the school system? A simple answer to all of those questions is no. Although cell phones can be distracting in a learning environment, they allow the students, teachers, and schools to take advantage of new technology as a resource for communication and innovation. Communication has become very mobile over the past decade, most homes no longer even have landline phones. Cell phones now provide a way for parents/siblings to contact each other during the day for rides or changes in plans. During Bloomberg administration, the Mayor of New York, many parents complained to the school board with concerns, arguing that they need “to be able to easily contact their kids” (Keima 1). The successor of Mayor Bloomberg, Mayor Bill De Blasio, sided with the parents and changed the policy in order for the students and parents to feel safer.
When the call was made that school was cancelled, students instantly began to make arrangements through their phones with family members or telling other friends not to come to school. A few minutes later, student services sent a mass text with the help of Remind confirming that there will be no school that day. Imagine if the students did not have their cell phones with them because it was banned? There would have been a bunch of teenagers flocking towards payphones or other nearby stores because the in-school telephone was not working without the electricity. Having a cell phone helps parents and students to stay connected regardless of any situations.
Is that the right time or place for them? While traditionally students have not been allowed to use their cell phones in school, they should be now. Every time a student got caught with their phone, whether it went off or they were playing games, teachers would take the phone and not let the student have it until the end of class. But now, schools have been considering lifting the ban and allowing students to bring their cell phones to class. Right now cell phones aren’t permitted in class. Its important to have your phone and when your in schools i think its time to just give your phone a break for a few hours and just pay attention. First thing i think about phones in school is that kids shouldn 't to hide their phones to text, play games or, anything else. I mean don 't get me wrong I would use my phone in school but I rather learn then fail. But I 'm arguing about how kids should have their phones in school than no school. Well its kids need their phones just in case of anything maybe their parents are calling them for important things that they need to know while there in class.
