Now this is just wrong. Why would people just want to get rid of something that is shown everywhere, even in historical Reenactments. Reenactments are there for a reason, to show history. Why get rid of it if it was in history and needs to be shown. Some people say that the confederate flag is a sign of treason in America.
There is proof that these tau proteins are anomalous and should not be in the professional football player’s brain. It is no coincidence that these proteins are found in the NFL players. According to Boston University, “However, recent reports have been published of neuropathologically confirmed CTE in retired professional football players and other athletes who have a history of repetitive brain trauma. This trauma triggers progressive degeneration of the brain tissue, including the build-up of an abnormal protein called tau.” This quote may substantiate that tau proteins are found during a football game where there are periodic impacts to the brain.
In Brian W. Benson’s article, he states, “Concussion results in a graded set of clinical symptoms that may or may not involve loss of consciousness or memory dysfunction.” Major injuries are always an issue when it comes to contact sports among all ages. Due to this, changes have been made to the physical rules of the game. For example, in all levels, there is now a penalty for head contact. Hockey is a fast-paced game and it can be difficult to perform a clean body check.
This is why youths shouldn’t play football. Some say kids should be allowed to play football even though there is risk of concussions. Youths are very susceptible to concussions so they should not be allowed to play football. The number of kids in emergency rooms because of concussions has gone up. “Between 2001 and 2009, the number of kids under 19 visiting emergency rooms for concussions each year increased by 62 percent.”
First thing I would like to talk about is equipment. At USA Today Sports I read that there are groups like NOCSAE that test football helmets with drop tests and ram the helmets with a dummy that can show them results of the impacts to test if the helmets are safe. Another thing I’ve found is that the NFL has advanced its helmets and pads a lot throughout the years and are now from leather helmets to reinforced plastic and metal helmets with impact
America is obsessed with sports and competition, and one sport that signifies America is football. Today many professional football players across the country suffer from a common injury which is a concussion. This injury can threaten an athletics career and most of all permanently injure the brain. Former retired NFL players now deal with short term memory loss, and depression because of this brain injury. The increased amount of concussions in athletics today calls for more education on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of traumatic brain injury.
A total of 4,300 players of the league’s alumni is suing the NFL, claiming it concealed the connections between repetitive head trauma and CTE cases, while profiting billions of dollars on violence (Jenkins NP). Because of this, the NFL strived to develop safety advancements such as helmet testing and clinical for advanced imaging to better identify concussions. However, the association proclaimed that it aims to alter rules of the game instead of undergoing reinforcements (Beck NP). The NFL has had several attempts on refining safety issues but has failed to do so in several
These are blows to the head where an athlete may experience just one or even no concussion symptoms. They seem insignificant and many have no immediate effect, but over time the build upon each other. These blows combined with concussions cause life altering diseases such as CTE, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s. Many people are familiar with Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, you probably know someone who suffers from these diseases. CTE on the other hand was only discovered in 2002 by Dr. Bennett Omalu.
Many of the famous sports today are played with great enjoyment, however, contact injuries can always occur at any time. Many of these injuries are concussions. Couple of years back studies showed concussions were not a major subject to be dealt with, but until later this idea was proven wrong. A simple Concussion can change many things in your life even the way you act. Many have died due to multiple major concussions even famous athletes.
It 's the day after the super bowl, and kids across the nation will be waking up to a newfound interest in football. For many parents, that may be a scary thought. Football can often be a dangerous sport, and has caused many concussions in the NFL. "Certaintly, is a sport where we do see kids with concussions but there are many sports in which kids suffer concussions. Soccer is a sport, in which, kids on average suffer just as many concussions if not more concussions than football," said Dr. James Coleman.
The brain does not only get injured during concussions. Minnesota says that any given professional player can receive up to 1500 blows to the head each season. Multiple seasons of football can lead to serious damage, and diseases like alzheimer 's. More precautions should be taken by the NFL to prevent brain damage from
Many different investigations were started in order to connect CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) to football. These investigations succeeded, even though some took longer to be recognized due to the fact of how important American football is to the U.S.A., but nonetheless it was known that NFL players were at a high risk for CTE and the only way to fix it is to stop playing football. During studies like the NFL case in 2002, there was a big riot about NFL and how it impacts the football fans, but they never focused on how the injuries start to stack up into CTE. The scientists that focus towards the beginning of a football athletes rate of concussions start to see the a distortion in the brain. Scientists like Dr. Christopher Whitlow, who did an experiment on 25 boys around mid teens and used helmets to record brain activity while playing football.
Concussions can lead to future brain diseases like CTE. Concussions aren’t the only injury that is common in sports like football. Knee injuries like tearing your ACL. Tearing your ACL could cause knee problems for the rest of your life. One more injury is Tommy john surgery in baseball which can cause you to be out of sports for a long time.
Concussions are also not limited to contact sports, they can occur in any sports. The actual injury of a concussion is not the issue of this crisis that is ongoing; the real issue at hand is the failure to manage them correctly. That is something that is very important to note because thousands of concussions go unaddressed every year, which can cause severe brain damage, especially on the professional level. The focus of this issue is in the NFL because of recent studies that have come out about the true dangers of concussions. The NFL is currently on the hot seat dealing with this issue due to the amount of retired players who
