Did you know that coal, oil, gas provide 85% of the total energy we use on transportation, electricity, heat and industry. We are extremely reliant to on fossil fuels yet they so much threaten our planet. (TOXIC ACTION CENTRE, 2012) Fossil fuels are geologic deposits of carbon in organic form and of biological origin, including coal, oil, natural gas, oil shale’s, tar and tar sands that are combustible, they result from natural processes such as anaerobic decomposition of dead organisms and exposure to heat and pressure in the earth crust over millions of years. To produce energy the fossil fuels are burnt and carbon (iv) oxide and oxides of sulphur and nitrogen are produced as a by-products which are really dangerous to our environment.
The sad part is cleaner alternative sources of energy have been discovered but we are reluctant to employ them not aware of what we pay for using fossil fuels. The use of fossil fuel to produce energy should be banned because: it causes global warming, it results into global dimming, cause’s acidic rain and radioactive materials are released into the atmosphere as the fossil fuels are …show more content…

The vast reliance on fossil fuel as the main source of energy should be stopped as it is the main course of global warming on earth.
The amount of carbon (iv) oxide in the atmosphere has increased by 20% since 1950 due to the wide use of fossil fuels which is very alarming since, The life span of carbon (iv) oxide is long about a century. This means that for every carbon (iv) oxide released about 30 percent will stay with us for a hundred years from now. Air carries the carbon (iv) oxide around together with other greenhouse gases until they cover the entire planet like a blanket of gases. (Ramanathan, Global Warming,
