Should guns be banned or should guns still be kept in America? This topic of banning guns has been a progressing debate yet the question still remains unanswered. Many people have probably heard of someone or knew someone that got injured or killed by a gun. These incidents happen every day from suicides to homicides.First, guns cost the lives of many people in America.Guns cost the lives of more than 30,000 people each year.If guns were banned, the number of deaths would reduce.Second, other populated countries with more gun control laws have lower suicide and homicide rates than the United States, which shows how having more gun control laws could affect the U.S.Finally, guns are rarely used in self defense when an individual is in a dangerous …show more content…
Most of these deaths occur when children are playing with a loaded gun when their parents are not supervising them. The U.S General Accounting Office estimated that 31% of total accidental gun deaths could have been prevented by installing a safety device on guns.100% of deaths per year where a six year old or under kills themselves or another child could have been prevented by an automatic child-proof safety lock on guns. Marjorie Sanfilippo, PhD, and Professor of Psychology at Eckerd College stated,”We our gates on around swimming pools to keep children from drowning. We out …show more content…
Lastly, gun are rarely used for self defense in a dangerous situation.Out of the 29,618,300 violent crimes that were committed between 2007 and 2011,only 235,7000 victims protected themselves with a gun.Between 2007 and 2011,84,495,500 property crimes that were committed only 103,000 people protected themselves with a gun. Thus,it is obvious that guns are unnecessary since they increase the number of crimes committed each year in America because even criminals own guns legally.According to the theguardian.com,in 2011,12,664 murders committed in the U.S.Out of 12,664,8,583 murders were committed by guns.According to the FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation,in 2012,the number of violent crimes increased by 0.7% and property crimes increased by 0.9%.On the other hand, banning guns infringes the right to self defense.According to the National Rifle Association, guns are used in self defense 2.5 million times a year.61% of men and 56% of women surveyed by Pew Research said that applying strict gun laws it would make it more difficult for people to protect themselves, their homes, and families.Nelson Lund,Professor at George Mason University School of Law,states,”The right to self defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out the right to life..”Yes,all individuals have the right to defend themselves but civilians with a gun are unlikely unable to stop crimes and are more likely to make a dangerous situation more dangerous. In 2002,a mass

A survey from Pew Research shows that 61% of men and 56% of women stated that strict gun control laws make it hard for us to protect our families and homes. In thirty-seven U.S. states their constitution protects their rights to bear arms for self defense. For example Alabama 's states that "every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.
‘’Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).. In 2014, the CDC reported that 11,008 of the 15,872 homicides committed in the United States that year involved a firearm. Of the 42,826 suicides reported that year, 21,386 involved a firearm. These statistics have inspired efforts at the federal and state levels to enact gun control legislation to reduce crime and violence’’(‘’Gun Control’’). According to the statistic guns are held for over 33,000 deaths in the United States.
If guns didn’t exist the planet will be a better place than it is right know. There’s been many mass murders caused by people for selfish reason or because of mental illness. America should have better gun control. Over the years, many of the kills known to history are done by guns.
Taking away guns would just cause more crimes that police force would not be able to keep up with. People claim rifles cause more harm; However taking away rifles will not prevent someone from harming others. “People are killed in greater numbers by cars, bats, hammers, hands and feet. Examining the tool and attempting to ban the tool will have absolutely no effect.” (why gun groups 5).
Gun Violence In America Gun violence in america accounted for 33,636 deaths in 2015 alone and that number is only rising. If every american was able to obtain a firearm imagine what the numbers of gun related deaths. Even gun related injuries caused many more hospital visits in america what many other common incidents. That is why america needs to implement tighter gun laws to reduce the amount of gun violence in America. Without this we will continue to see shooting, gun death, gun injuries resulting in more and more gun related violence.
Taking A Good Look At Handguns Are handguns necessary for the average citizen or should handguns be banned? In the article “Why Handguns Must Be Outlawed” by the author Nan Desuka, she argues on the matter and issues of handguns. Throughout the entire essay Ms. Desuka gives her point of view on why guns should be outlawed for everyone. Everyone, except for the police officers.
The right to bear arms has been a controversial issue ever since James Madison established it as the second amendment of the constitution. The second amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (US Const. amend. II). Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
Gun Control Gun control has become a polarizing and controversial issue around the globe. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.
Some days crime rates are up and then the next they are down, what we do know is that America is becoming safer. In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm, (National Institute of Justice). Surprisingly, a lot of gun violence in America is related to self defense. Between 1987 and 1990 it was found that guns were used in defense during a crime incident 64,615 times annually. This equates to two times out of 1,000 incidents (0.2%) that occurred in this time frame.
Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.
Guns should be banned in America, with 30,000 deaths yearly in America, we need to do something about it. Many counties have made strict gun control laws or just have banned guns and that seems to be helping them. We have the most gun deaths out of all wealthy countries, which is unacceptable and we need to change it as fast as possible to prevent further deaths. Many people say that guns shouldn't be banned because of how the Second Amendment says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment was written in 1791, around 225 years ago!
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
George Mason, the co-author of the Second Amendment to the Constitution once stated, “I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” Freedom from slavery is the reason many people came to this country, and the right to bear arms is a fundamental part of this freedom. Gun control is a type of slavery that many people do not recognize.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
In the past, the major gun control legislations that have been put into effect have not stopped people from obtaining firearms (Gun Control.) There have also been cases in the past where cities have attempted to ban handguns. After the ban was put into effect, murder rates tended to rise instead of drop, unlike what most people might assume. Crime rates and violence also skyrocketed after the bans were put into effect. Another problem with taking guns away, or banning them, is that the government cannot expect everyone to abide by the laws.
