Should international language be taught to young adults in school? My answer is yes, it is very important to learn international languages for many reasons. For example, if you travel to a foreign country and an emergency takes place you may need the ability to speak a different language. However, that is not the only plus to learning an international language, it also looks very good on a job resume, if you were in a situation where you are against another candidate for a job, you may be the obvious pick because you are bilingual. Also, you may have the opportunity to help someone in need, despite the language they speak. Young adults meet many people in their life, and they should be equipped to understand what they are saying. Also, in the military many people end up in hostage situations, mostly in a foreign place where the language is unknown to them. In a life threatening case like that, being fluent in other languages, could be life saving. Learning a foreign language can be helpful in many different cases, so my answer is yes, young adults should be taught international languages in school.

During my freshman and sophomore years of high school I took Spanish. It was a great experience to immerse myself in a different language and culture. I think every student in high school should take a language course because it makes for a better well rounded education. People who speak spanish as a main language are becoming more prominent in the United States, so it would be good to know at least the basics in case of an emergency. For example, I work at a Dunkin Donuts and sometimes someone who does not speak english with come in.

In the Debate of speaking Spanish prompt the author Myriam Marquez explains that speaking Spanish in public places in America is not to make herself look un-American, but because she feels it’s a free country where anyone can speak any language they like. First, Spanish speakers shouldn’t be ashamed to speak their language because of what the public might think about them. Secondly, Speaking the Spanish language in public is not rude if it is spoken with family members who speak it as well. Lastly, if a non-Spanish speaker is with people who decide to speak Spanish and not English around them; then it is considered rude.
Within the school environment, there will be a variety of children and adults. Each child and adult will differ from the other. Some will come from different backgrounds, speak different languages and some may have additional educational needs or impairments. Children and adults from different backgrounds may speak a different language to the majority of the people in the school. Sometimes they may have English as a second language but some may only have their first language.

Foreign language should not be required at the elementary level because students need to focus on the core subjects, like math, reading, science and history. The core subjects are more essential in everyday life and can lead to more jobs in the future. Students also might have trouble learning the rules of English along with another language.
