We must repeal the juvenile system due to its copious faults. This system does not work which is why juveniles need to shape up. Juveniles should face trial as adults when they commit serious crimes because age does not justify crime and victims often suffer from these crimes forever. Whenever people say that juveniles should be subject to lesser sentences seeing as they are children, it makes no sense. Age does not justify committing a crime.
Juveniles should be charged as adult not only because of their age but because of the crime they committed. According to all cases of teen killing there is 1,300 that has been sentenced as an adult to life. Is not right to put a child behind bars because they're brain is not fully developed so they're not mature, but a crime is a crime.
In the article it states, “The court said that minors who commit terrible crimes are less responsible than adults: They are less mature, more susceptible to peer pressure, and their personalities are not yet fully formed.” In this quote the author is reasoning against life without parole because they are less mature and not fully developed. Although all crimes deserve proper punishment, juveniles should not receive life without parole because they are still developing and this punishment leaves no room for a second chance
Throughout our country, juveniles getting executed for something that they can’t process. People argue that the youth have the same mental capacity as an adult. But why should a 10 year old be executed if he/she does not know the consequences of their actions? Very plainly, juveniles should be excluded from the death sentence. The minor does not know their rights from wrongs at their young age.
Juvenile Justice Essay In the United States, there have been many cases where a juvenile would be found guilty and be tried as an adult. There are other cases where those juveniles are tried as adult forever. I am against charging juveniles as adults when they commit violent crimes, the juveniles lose many educational opportunities and the adult system is far too dangerous for the young juveniles. Juveniles are also young kids but only the fact that they do not get the same amount of education or experience that other teens gain.
Juveniles should be convicted as adults for violent crimes because it is not fair for juveniles to commit big crimes and get away with it so easily. If they want to act like adults, they should be treated. Some teens commit crimes and don't have a really good excuse on why they do it. In the article “On Punishment and Teen Killers” by Jennifer Jenkins she explains how the teenager that killed her sister, husband and her unborn child excuse of killing them was that he just wanted to “see what it would feel like to shoot someone”, which is no good excuse for what he did to this family. Another example from Jennifer's Jenkins article she states how “undeveloped brain” has nothing to do with teens committing these crimes.
One of the reasons that Los Aztecas is seeking to recruit younger boys is because they are not morally developed yet, so they do not overthink about the consequences of killing someone (Burnett, 2009). Broken families or no families at all make it easier for youth to fall into criminal
A common issue in today’s society is the increasing number of young people who are being sentenced for joint enterprise. There are many arguments for and against this law due to many not wanting innocent people locked up for a crime they witnessed, or being sentenced for observing dangerous and illegal actions which isn’t actually their fault. I believe joint enterprise should no longer be used. The reason for this is because I personally think only the one who commits the crime should hold a punishment. I do believe those who took part deserve to be punished too, just not as severely.
Life Over the years minors are being sentenced as adults and sent to adult prisons, however they should be juveniles should be tried as adults because they committed adult like crimes and they need to be punished for it and spend the rest of their life behind bars just as the saying goes “you commit the crime now you do the time. Minors should be charged as adults based on the crime they commit.minors should not be tried as adults because of their size and will not fit in with adult inmates.if a minor takes another person 's life they owe that person family their life.minors should go to adult prisons so it can sink in there little brains what they have done.minors who take a life should be
Although many people view kids as a symbol of innocence and purity, many of their actions signify otherwise. The age of 18, which by law states people as adults, is more like a guideline when it comes to everyday activities. When a heinous crime is committed by one of these underaged citizens, the same punishment should definitely be applied, taking into consideration the seriousness of the crime and the victim. Thompson states that kids should not be tried as adults because their brain is not developed as an adult’s brain is. That study does not specifically explain why juveniles act the way they do.
If the adult brain and Juvenile brain are different than it only seems fair to treat them one another in a peculiar way when relating to crime. It is completely absurd to believe that a 12 year old can be held to the same standards as a 30 year old. Yes some do deserve to be in juvenile hall but not in prison with older inmates who have fully comprehended that what they did was most of the time inexcusable
Some might say that because sexual assault is a heinous crime, those students should have been charged as adults. However, I feel that their actions should have been better monitored and watched over. I do not believe that trying these minors, as adults would benefit them or
Many think otherwise, but in reality and fairness, anyone, especially with proven murder should certainly be tried as an adult. The quote “if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime” plays a decent role in this specific case. It’s simple, if you can’t bare being confined in prison, don’t do the causing action. Additionally, the fact stated “If juvenile
There are many victims of unfortunate circumstances in the world today, yet some of these results could have been easily avoided. In the novel, Just Mercy, the author Bryan Stevenson addresses many cases in which children under the age of 18 are incarcerated within the adult criminal justice system. By treating children as adults in the criminal justice system their innocence and undeveloped person, become criminalized. These children become dehumanized and only viewed as full-fledged criminals and as a result society offers no chance sympathy towards them. Stevenson argues that children tried as adults have become damaged and traumatized by this system of injustice.
An indication that disproves the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision centers on the idea that one’s age should not be used as an excuse to minimize their punishment. In her essay “On Punishment and Teen Killers”, Jennifer Jenkins supports this by arguing that a juvenile should not use their age as an excuse to get out of trouble with the law. After mentioning the horrific case of a teenager who killed a pregnant woman for satisfaction, it is revealed that the murderer was charged with three life sentences. Despite the murderer’s wicked actions, some people still believed that the murderer did not deserve life sentences just because the killer was not considered a legal adult. To support her argument that age isn’t enough of an excuse, Jenkins writes “There are advocates who wish to minimize
