In Penrod’s Anti-Intellectualism: Why We Hate the Smart Kids, Penrod provides a brief summary of how teens are affected by their peers ridiculing and judgement. *insert supporting (integrated) quote from the article* From this, it is clear to see that it isn’t harmless what is being done in these situations. Kids are going home from school feeling broken, embarrassed, and outcast by those who were once their friends. Anyone can tell stories about how high school is all a popularity contest of different cliques, but no one is ever really willing to talk about how extreme this contest really is. There have been several news articles chronicling the bullying of kids who are designated as ‘too intelligent’ and are thus being bullied because of it.
Many parents have stated that this book is not age-appropriate and should not be read in school. However, in my opinion this book should not be banned. The biggest reason Of Mice and Men has been repeatedly banned and challenged is because of the impression that it’s promoting
As a matter of fact, you can do your own little experiment at home, spinning the fidget in the middle of an important conversation or situation, watch you kid shut his world to you as he magically stares at the spinner. Maybe the spinner is really working wonders with one kid, but the bare truth is that for most kids it’s just a distraction. Maybe that’s the reason that so many teachers have decided to completely ban the use of fidget spinners, even for the kids that may truly have the need of a fidget spinner. The bottom-line is that you’re the only one who can decide whether or not your kid will be getting a fidget spinner. If it’s a harmless toy for him and it won’t effect on his school, then have a try.
“The other Rose apparently didn't do very well, for I was placed in the vocational track, a euphemism for the bottom level.”. Rose and his family were unware of the scores being switched, and they didn’t realize what this meant for Rose and his future. The school should have taken action on this problem by switching the scores back and placing the two children in the programs they tested into originally. This connects to Rose’s main idea by showing that the children were overlooked, and that the school was not prepared for this situation to
1a. Explain why, according to Lavoie, sarcasm is not an effective tool for teachers. Sarcasm is not an effective tool because it creates a victim. What may seem like a small sarcastic remark to the teacher and other classmates is a much bigger deal to the child it was directed at. The teacher and other students will laugh and forget about the remark within a few minutes but it will stick with the learning disabled student for quite possibly the whole day.
Gum in School There are many arguments on whether chewing gum in class should be aloud. For a long time, gum hasn’t been allowed in schools. Either the whole school has banned gum, or it’s the teacher’s choice whether or not the students can have it. They say that gum isn’t allowed because students make a mess by putting gum under the desks. Kids only do that because they don't want to be caught throwing it away.
Lead Poisoning The way lead poisoning had widely spread is due to the lack of care that a lot of companies have stopped watching for in their lead based paints and how it is affecting kids. The reason why this poses such an issue is because there are a lot of different toy products that have lead based paint. As documented in several different sources there are many people that are complaining to these companies, such as the Mattel Toy Company that is getting sued for many of their products because of the link to several kids with lead poisoning. These sources are used different names during my research on lead Alert Recalls by Good Housekeeping, In the lead by Girl 's life, Lead in toy Reebok Charm by Consumer Reports, Playing it safe by Sharon Loh and Elizabeth levy, Toy Recalls by Marti Parham. Lead poisoning in children is a complex issue because exposure is varied, there are alternative ways kids can be exposed, and figuring out exactly which toys are harming children is difficult.
Be that as it may, there are multiple reasons why books should be taught and included in a curriculum. If you really want a book not to be read by an adolescent, banning the book will often have an opposite effect. Although it contains sensitive topics and harsh language, The Secret Life of Bees should not be banned in high schools because students are not only mature enough to handle these issues but should, in fact, be exposed to them in an educational environment to help in the development of their maturing minds. Being exposed to course language at too early an age can often have negative effects on adolescent development. Profanity is inappropriate in a school setting so why should students be assigned to read a book that contains it?
In prisons, child molesters are seen as the worst. Outside of those prison walls, life does not get better and the general population sees them just the same. There still existed transactions that would have kids go around (Dave 2008). Even more, the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) fails at trying to endorse the actions (Young 2008). They cannot gain any support from outsiders or the “wise” (Goffman 1963).
There are clear statements as to why this happened. The poor security, School Shooter video game, mental illness, and pedophilia are all causes to why this could have happened. The poor security in the school at Sandy Hook Elementary School led to a major tragedy. The school’s security failed. A gun man got into the school by the lack of security.
One reason I think you should not have a soda machine is because kids will drink a lot of just sugary drink and I would know I 'm a kid. These sugary drinks can be a distraction for kids and distraction for teachers as well. And sure it will raise money but still. Another reason is sugary drinks such as soda can make kids not concentrate and kids are at school to learn not to drink soda. Kids won 't want to talk about school they will talk about soda all day.
