Imagine fighting in a war with 6,000 soldiers while you’re up against 243,000. Seems impossible right? Well in fact that’s what happened in the War of 1812. America had 246,000 less soldiers than the British. After The War of 1812, America realized it needed to upgrade and improve their tiny army.
“The irony is that, while sports events generate millions for each school, the workers are not paid” (Eitzen). Athletes give forty hours a week just to the sport they play. As a result, graduation rates have gone down to an all time low, and some athletes don’t even go to college for an education. Former Iowa State head football coach Jim Walden said, "Not more than 20% of the football players go to college for an education" (qtd. in Eitzen).
All branches of the military don 't make more than just an average professional athlete. I am not saying soldiers should be paid millions but shouldn 't but that much underpaid to a athlete. These soldier risk their lives everyday and most of the time when they come back from duty still can 't find a job. As to these athletes who could only play for two years and be set for life. People have to work harder or just as hard as these professional athletes.
In most professional sports, they play in games for only a few months and then have a few months off. They do practice every day, but is that worth millions of dollars? Most athletes are getting paid ridiculous amounts for short term contracts; for example Odell Beckham Jr is getting paid 25 million dollars a year for five years, and most people are not going to even get close to 2 million dollars in their lifetime. One of the main reasons that ticket prices are so high is that the fans have to pay for the “all star” salaries. I think that the pro leagues should just start to pay their players normal salaries or at least
Katie Hill Mrs. Gallos English 3 Honors 20 March, 2018 Should Athletes Be Paid? College athletes in the United States have been struggling with the fact that their job allows them to work just as many hours a week than a regular job does, but they do not receive any income from it. This conflict amongst athletes has been around since the 1980’s and continues to be of issue to most college athletes today. Supporters say that college athletes are the one’s out their making all the money for all the coaches and universities and it is unfair that the player’s do not receive any of the income; whereas, non-supporters say that college athletes get their stay at the colleges paid for along with many other privileges that normal college students do not receive, therefore, there is no unfairness. Our society today is so focused on a money filled world that that is all these young, adult, college, athletes care about; they can not see past the real privileges they are undertaking by being an athlete.
College sports collect millions of dollars each year:Approximately around 40 million dollars a year, states and universities make. You would think that the amount of money that is made would get split between the franchises ,students and schools but unfortunately the students that play receive none of it.Theres many discussions on if college athletes should or should not get paid and because they already receive scholarships then they shouldn 't get paid. Scholarships in itself is “around 25,000-30,000 per year for example a student who 's division 1 thats over 100,000 for 4 years of college(Hartnett 1)”.So if college athletes would start getting paid then they shouldn 't get any scholarships and they would just have to pay for it with the money they are receiving. College Athletes contribute about “43 hours a week to the sport with practices and games, that doesn’t include the school work they have to do(Edleman 1)”. There has been many debates about it and fights to get this to happen from
Persuasive Essay I personally think it is unfair to the teachers, law enforcers, firefighter, etc… that professional athletes make way more money than they do. The average salary for a professional basketball player (NBA) is about 5.15 Million per year, MLB (baseball) 3.2 Million yearly, NHL (Hockey) 2.4 Million, NFL (Football) 1.9 Million yearly. That is a lot of money , especially compared to what teachers get paid. A teacher makes approximately $35,000-$55,000 yearly. So this means that an average player in the NBA is making up to 150 times more than a teacher.
We loved to watch our favorite athletes win a championship. But athletes are paid an insane amount of money today. Athletes should not be paid huge amounts of money because many athletes only work for 5-10 years and make more than one family in a decade, are sports really so important that we should spend trillions of dollars every year on them, and there are more important career paths that deserve better recognition and better pay. How
Do you think Pro Athletes are getting paid too much to just play a game, or do you think they are getting paid just enough? Surgeons are making under half of what pro athletes are making and one of the poorest places in the world are orphanages, so do you think that pro athletes should be paid over millions of dollars a year? I think that they should be paid a little less than what they are getting now. Orphanages are one of the most poorest places in the world. While Pro athletes are making loads of money are spending it all on cars and big houses, they could be donating it to people who need it.
Many people think that soldiers in the military should make more money than sports players. In this essay,I will be authorizing the statements and facts of what i believe. One reason why i think soldiers should get more money because they put their life on the line, they don’t have to,but they do.I do not agree on sports players getting more money than soldiers.According to the internet, sports players make $5.15 million dollars per year and soldiers make $1,531.50 dollars per month. That’s not fair to me because sports players just do sports to persue their dream while soldiers now are thinking about our nation our country and sports players just think of the money.I mean yeah sports players also do sports for the school to pay for
“Most of the sins of politics are derivative of this larger sin — the need to win.” (Obama, 109) In any political campaign money is a much needed resource. “Money can’t guarantee victory”, however “without money, and the television ads that consume all the money, you are pretty much guaranteed to lose.” (Obama, 109) To gain the money to run a campaign in American many side deals have to be done with sponsors. Not the mention the time and effort put into gain such high amounts of money, it took three months for Obama’s campaign to raise just $250,000 and fall flat of their $500,000 goal. Our government is flawed but it manages to keep our country
His cap hit was $7,400,000 while his dead money value is $13,100,000. In 2016, at age 27 his base salary would be $8,000,000, signing bonus would be $1,900,000, cap hit would be roughly be about $9,900,000, and a dead cap of $5,700,000. In my opinion I think that NFL players aren 't paid enough because they literally risk their life to play a game to entertain people. I mean, who would risk your risk life to entertain a crowd? Maybe they should get paid less, but they overall deserve money.
