Students should wear school uniforms instead of wearing their daily clothes. However, many Turkish people have some sort of questions in their minds about school uniforms. Is a shirt, sweater, tie and school logo really important for their children? I believe that Turkish students should wear school uniforms instead of wearing their daily clothes because it reduces student’ stress and supports their family economically. However, other counter-view against this point of view is that school uniforms are not suitable and acceptable for students because they believe students lose their freedom of expression, identity and creativity.

As we mentioned counter-viewer’s beliefs and we emphasize them miss the main point that is families’ economy. According to T.C Calisma ve Sosyal Guvenlik Bakanligi Calisma Genle Mudurlugu (2015) in Turkey minimum wage is net 949,07. Let us think of a family, which has two children, and assume that only one family member works with minimum wage. It is hard to survive with that money. In addition to that, free dressing is not logical for Turkish people, especially for this kind of families it can be stressful when they can’t buy a new clothes for their children. Compulsory school uniforms reduce family stress and help them economically. Also free dressing policy can clearly create class differences among children. Students who wear cheap clothes would be teasing from their peers. For example, when I was a student my peers look at their friends’ shoes and they were speaking out against that. Even shoes already make students differences, how free dressing won’t do. Obviously clothes will be showing their economic status and students won’t be comfortable in school environments.
