Should Sunday remain a day of rest and stores stay closed?

In Germany shopping hours are restrictive. This is because of the Supreme Court who decided that Sundays, as well as public holidays, must be protected for religious reasons and therefore most stores must be closed. Although there are many countries where open stores on a Sunday are a normal thing or even stores that are open 24/7 looking at Walmart over in the US for instance. For Germans, it is a rarely treat. Once they come around which is up to four times in a year the stores are filled with people to a maximum making it no pleasure whatsoever. However, religion should not be the basis for laws and thus Sunday opening hours in Germany should be changed. Consequently, giving those people who want to open their business on a Sunday a chance to do so making it rather a free choice than an obligatory. It would not only create an additional amount of jobs but subsequently, there would be also more people spending their money resulting in an economy boost. In other words, the government could lower the unemployment rate by just giving stores the option to open seven days a week. Even though it should not be mandatory to open one’s store as it might not be worth it economically for every store.
It rather should be self-determined since religious people with a strong belief shape a minority nowadays. To clarify there are plenty of people who are already working on Sundays since they do not even have the choice to use Sunday as a day of rest, like nurses for example. Considering furthermore the people who are occupied with different things other than working full time, for instance, students. Sundays would give them not only a chance to find the time where no other time is left but to gain that extra money most people
