He improved his skills as a football player early on by practicing with his brother’s, dad, and childhood friends at an early age.
In the second part of the book Brian Piccolo plays in a game against the Atlanta Falcons in 1969 just after brian was moved to the starting fullback position he complained of having breathing difficulties and was thus removed from the game. After the game the Bears went back to Chicago where Brian Piccolo went to get some test done to see what was causing his breathing problems. The result of his test diagnosed him with embryonal cell carcinoma which is also known as a cancerous tumor. Piccolo then underwent two surgeries and countless more weeks of testing where his left lung and a pectoral muscle were removed.

Part of the reason there was such a large increase in hockey participation after the game was because hockey became a national sport, instead of being a “northern sport.” The spread of hockey needed a tipping point, and this moment was it. The game also inspired many people to go on and play hockey including into the high levels, as they wanted a shot to do what that team had done. Hockey in America continued to grow into the southern parts of the country like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida.

He missed fifty four games during the 1990 and 91 season. Despite missing all the time Lemieux made it back to the team just in time for the playoffs, where he led the team to a Stanley Cup and another MVP. The following year Lemieux and the Penguins won their second straight Stanley Cup and once again Lemieux won MVP.

Through hard work and dedication, I quickly began to excel in hockey, but to me, hockey wasn't about winning, in my mind it about making it to the NHL and coming together as a team. Yet one of those things was worse than I thought. I joined a league where I could play and make friends, while we all worked towards the same goal. From that point on I moved higher in the divisions, trying to create what I thought was a capable future of sports.
