What do Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh have in common? They were both explorers who impacted history and are both well known for being the first people to explore the New World and travel across the Atlantic Ocean. These two men, despite their 400 year difference, shared many differences and similarities in their voyages, what they hoped to achieve, the challenges they faced, and the skills they faced.
For one thing, Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh’s challenges were very similar. On one hand, Christopher Columbus had to worry about challenges such as harsh weather, diseases, violent people, scarcity of food, dehydration, and the availability of a map. In result, Christopher Columbus had to use resources such as his mind

As a result of this, Christopher Columbus did not use a map, he didn’t follow the same route as the Portuguese explorers, and he persuaded his crew to trust him. However, Columbus did have a compass to help him and it navigated him to the New World. It can be proven that Columbus had more than just the average skills of a European. To conclude with, he corrected the Portuguese about their view of the Earth and its shape and this is why he chose his own route to explore. ("Christopher Columbus's Challenges He Encountered." ) Charles Lindbergh also had skills such as his mind, curiosity, and mechanical skills. Charles Lindbergh had been always curious around machines and he used the skills above to find as much info on the plane he was flying across the Atlantic Ocean. As a result, Charles Lindbergh is remembered as one of the greatest explorers in history alongside Christopher Columbus. ("Daredevil Lindbergh and His Barnstorming …show more content…
This also was the effect of the four hundred year difference. One example of this situation is the difference in the time period. In 1492, when Christopher Columbus set sail, people did not know how the world was shaped and the only transportation to far places was by boat. This was a major setback because it took a lot of hard labor and supplies to build boats as big as the ones Columbus sailed on.("How the Compass Helped Columbus.") ("Christopher Columbus's Challenges He Encountered.") One example of Charles Lindbergh’s voyage being different is the time period as well. Charles Lindbergh took flight in 1927 and by that time people knew how the world was shaped and it was more ways of transportation than just by boat like in 1492. This was a major accomplishment for 1927 because airplanes were just being developed and World War 1 was happening around the same time as Lindbergh’s flight. ("Charles Lindbergh.")There voyages were also very similar as well. Columbus and Lindbergh, both used their own strategies to make it across the Atlantic Ocean. Christopher Columbus used techniques such as his knowledge of trade winds and how the Earth was shaped. This was magnificent in the 1400s because very few people knew how to use the trade winds to find their way or that the world has not an oval shape. Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh are two men that are forever in the history of America. Even though they have a 400 years of difference they both are great adventurers. They are also very well known around the world. Ever though Christopher Columbus is from Italy he is in American history and Charles Lindbergh is in French history for example “”The President of France pinned the Legion of Honor upon the lapel of his borrowed suit and thousands of messages poured in upon him.” (Ranfranz).
Christopher Columbus, had another story. Columbus was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia, sadly, he never ecceded. Instead Columbus found “the new world”. “Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502. He was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia, but he never did.
Lindberghs' challenges were simply staying awake. He faces hallucinations of "mirage-like" foggy islands. Lindbergh stayed awake for approximately 55 hours and faced extreme fatigue. Columbus also faced the darkness. Columbus also faced hunger, mutiny and dehydration.
Columbus and Lindbergh both have been on amazing and intriguing adventures. Both of these men have faced many challenges during these adventures. Columbus incorporated his sailing skills from previous years of sailing into his adventure to find a route to Asia by sea. Lindbergh used his flying skills he previously learned in life in order to go on his adventure.
There is a good chance that neither of the quests that Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh headlined would be the same as we know them. Both individuals had to step up as leaders and show an incredible amount of courage and ingenuity throughout their journey, with everything that they fought for on the line. Their dedication to their missions led to the end results, which may not have been what each explorer wanted, but both would shape the world as we know it, and that is what binds these adventures together

Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh are well-known for their continuous journeys across the Atlantic ocean. Even though there is a 400 year gap, both journeys are very similar in some aspects. Each journey was a non-stop course through the Atlantic ocean. Both men possessed certain characteristics
Nicknamed the Lone Eagle, iconic aviator Charles Lindbergh became the first person to successfully complete a non-stop, solo, trans-Atlantic flight. He was in New York one day, then in Paris the next. His awards and immediate fame would not have happened without prior inventions. The 1920s was a time of innovation and exploration, Charles Lindbergh was a well known person of the time. They had to overcome numerous obstacles. Throughout this essay, you will read about the details of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage and Charles Lindbergh’s first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
Exploring the unknown? Receiving and conquering land to expand the power throughout the world? Christopher Columbus wasn’t like any other explorer. How was he different you may ask yourself and maybe question some things? How did he persuade Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand to help him fulfill the actions and other things to complete this task?
In the United States and many other countries, Christopher Columbus is taught and known as a hero. But it is not entirely clear why. The only real achievement he had in life was that he was the first European to have “discovered” America and thus started the Age of Exploration. However, the discovery was at best accidental and his so-called achievement should be viewed in the context of the horrendous atrocities Columbus committed against the native Americans. If a true hero calls for a person of virtues worthy of admiration, Columbus is by no means a hero in the true sense of the word.
Columbus changed the world because he introduced the Europeans to America. He also was one of the reasons that the United States, Mexico and Canada were founded. He started a new surge in exploration and inspired many people to go out on their own adventures and expeditions. Once people realized that the world was not flat they went out to explore places that had never been explored before.
Some of the reasons that I think that are because he found new land that people could move to and live on, was a good navigator and he knew exactly where to go, and the final reason is because he never gave up on what he wanted to do. Columbus worked for everything he did and got, that is why he is a
