How would you feel if you didn’t have control over your own life? In some societies, people have no control over themselves, and also in some of these societies, there are a lot of advanced techs that make their society different from ours. However, there are similarities between these societies such as inequalities. Both books Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Legend by Marie Lu it is a dystopian society with large amounts of control and high technology which are different from modern society however there are similarities like inequalities. In some dystopian societies people are controlled and don’t have power in their own lives and are even prevented from learning. In the book Fahrenheit 451, there is so much control over people which …show more content…
bridge: In the book Legend it is a lot higher tech society than modern-day society. An example of this is “Like all guns, it has precision, guided by magnets and electric currents, and can accurately shoot a target three blocks away” (Pg 5.) This is pretty high-tech compared to modern-day society because we have guns but not all this precision electric stuff making modern-day society different. To conclude Legend’s society is a lot more high-tech than modern-day society. In most societies including modern-day society, there are a lot of inequalities for multiple foolish reasons. Even though Fahrenheit 451 and modern-day society are very different from each other there are still some similarities. For instance, in modern-day society there are inequalities because of race, gender, and wealth which is similar to Fahrenheit 451 “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman” (Martin Luther King Jr.) This tells us that people are not acting like they should showing that modern-day society is dystopian just like Fahrenheit 451. To sum up, Modern day society has a lot of differences but also has similarities to dystopian
Fahrenheit 451 is a novel written by Ray Bradbury about a restrained society where a man named Gay Montag questioned the way the world was made. This book makes one question themselves, how close are we? When reading this novel one wouldn't want to believe how similar today's society and the books society truly are to a novel written in 1953. The reason today’s society and the books society are so applicable to each other because of the marriage and technology even though realization will be the cause of unhappiness in his/her life.
When the U.S first formed its government away from Britain, they tried to make their society as perfect as possible. As the years go on many changes occur in societies all around the world. There are many differences and similarities between Modern American Society and dystopian societies, such as fire departments in Fahrenheit 451, in the film 2081 government is extremely different than todays, and in the novel, Fever Code by James Dashner the freedoms of citizens have changed a lot. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 and Modern American society, Fire departments are both similar and different.
In this society, the people do not read books, think about life and how it works, enjoy nature, or have meaningful conversations. Instead, they watch excessive amounts of television about the size of a wall and listen to the “seashell radio” attached to their ears. This futuristic society is appallingly similar and different to today’s world. By comparing and contrasting the setting, government, and the people in today’s modern society and the book’s dystopian society, it can prove that the world today is quite similar to the dystopian society in the book, Fahrenheit 451.
The book Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a dystopian society. In this society books are banned and being unique, in a world where everyone is the same, is frowned upon. The main social issues discussed in this book, by Ray Bradbury, are censorship, conformity, and the lack of human connection cause by technology. Throughout the book there is an abundance of examples of how technology has overtaken the citizens of this society. Bradbury took the liberty to write a book as a warning to the people of the future to not let technology control their lives and to always have a thirst for knowledge.
A quote showing that Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian novel is, “They had this machine.” (Bradbury14) One way that Fahrenheit 451 is dystopian is that they are told what to do and how to do it. This is why main character Guy Montag rebels against the fire department. Modern day teenagers relate to this very well because they hate being told what to do, in turn making the teenagers also want to be rebellious.
A dystopian society is an illusion of a perfect world but individuals aren’t allowed freedom, and are under constant surveillance. In George Orwell’s book 1984, the protagonist Winston lives in a society where they were under Big Brothers control and were watched by the thought police. In the short story Harrison Bergeron, written by Kurt Vonnegut, the society lived by equality using handicaps to regulate the above-average people. Dystopian literature – whether novel, short story or film – focuses on similar characteristics and themes.
A great example of this in our world, is the storm of the capitol, on January 6th, 2021. Another example of our world being alike to the world of Fahrenheit 451 is how the government unfairly attacks certain groups of people. In our world, racism has become a very intense issue, and the government not only lets it happen, but they also join in on the beatings of the oppressed races. IHME writes “Black Americans were estimated to be 3.5 times more likely to die from police violence than white Americans.” (Author name).
What would you do if there was another world that burned homes instead of put them out? Society today is used to keeping the community a safe place instead of putting the society in danger. This society strives for balance and fair living. Fahrenheit 451 contrasts to modern society in areas of Government, Firemen, and Books.
In similarity to Fahrenheit 451 modern American society is very technologically advanced and we continue to evolve more, and there are constant wars with other nations, along with frustration among citizens while trying to expand their education. Modern society and Fahrenheit 451 are similar in multiple ways such as constant war, technology obsession, and education. Modern American society is just like Fahrenheit 451 because of constant war, obsession with technology, and education. In Fahrenheit 451 there were
A forbiddance of knowledge left the world dependant upon pop culture, leaving them all to forget just what a book was, or how it was a real thing written by real people. Thought lost any and all originality, thus forcing this nation to lose it as well. In order to control the people, the government of Fahrenheit 451 uses abrupt censorship and suppression against its people, thus resulting in inevitable rebellion and
Ray Bradbury, the author of Fahrenheit 451, presents a society in which humans suffer from depression, fear, and loss of empathy which are the result of censorship of free thought and knowledge. Humans suffer from loss of empathy due to their lack of human interaction. People live in fear of the government as the dystopian society deprives the people of knowledge. Depression is evidenced by suicidal tendencies caused by hollow lives. Bradbury uses the loss of empathy in order to demonstrate the effects that censorship of free thought and knowledge have upon the individual and society.
The differences and similarities between the book’s society and our modern day society really bulged out at me while I was reading the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. In Fahrenheit 451, books are banned. And instead of having firemen that put out fire, the firemen start the fire to burn down books and houses. There are many differences and similarities between our modern day society and the the society in the book ‘Fahrenheit 451’. Such as our Government, Technology, and Behavior.
The society in Fahrenheit 451, unlike the one we live in, is very controlling and have many rules most would deem dehumanizing. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, the protagonist Guy Montag seems to be in a perfect world but as you keep reading you learn that nothing is more far from the truth. In the society, owning books could get you killed. Also, speeding is not only ok, it is highly encouraged and you could get yourself in trouble if you don’t! It seems everyone is living as if they are a vessel lacking a soul and mind.
To conclude, the novel Fahrenheit 451 and our present day society have lots of similarities and differences. Both societies contain censorship, and value a faster pace life. On the other hand, present day America is much more relaxed on the idea of individuality. Thus, our present day society, and the society that Fahrenheit 451 takes place in include many significant similarities and
The “perfect” society that is created, comes at the cost of individuality. In Ray Bradbury’s, Fahrenheit 451, the individuality of the citizens is threatened by the amount of government control in their lives, and can be seen through the Utopian goals, the government punishments, and the citizens’ conformity in response to this. The Utopian goals that the society holds limits the individuality of the citizens. Their attempt to create a controlled environment leads to more government control than necessary.
