Chris McCandless, or should I say Alex McCandless, was a one of a kind person. Of course, we all are, however McCandless was the scapegoat of many communities. He changed his named and started a new life, running away from his parents expectations. He died in August, 1992 because of poison. Martin Luther King Jr. was a character that is well known for his protests and leadership against racial discrimination, especially discrimination against African Americans. He lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and was the idol for many young boys and girls. He was assassinated April 4, 1968. There may seem to be no similarities between these 2 men. One was a leader while the other was neither a leader nor a follower. One was admired by many people while the other had a mystic aura around him. Martin Luther King Junior was a natural-born leader. He was an activist and spoke many speeches that captivated his followers. He had the inspirational bubble in him that gave hope throughout the country. He even gained followers of the ‘superior-race’. On the other hand, Chris McCandless was less famous throughout the country. Many people who actually knew him were either acquaintances along the way, family members, or co-workers. He, like Martin Luther King, was a charmer, yet his charisma acted in different ways. Instead of spellbinding people, McCandless was a mystery to many. He was a person of which not many exist, drawing more people in to solve this enigma. Martin Luther King had a dream that “one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.” While Martin Luther King did not live to see this happen, he died in a glorified manner. One might think that being shot to death would be a horrible way to die, however, Martin Luther King died fighting, which, in turn, is the best way to die. Martin Luther King succeeded in spreading his hopes and dreams throughout the country. Similarly to MLK, Chris McCandless died fighting. Despite that, McCandless wasn’t assassinated and most likely died fighting poison in his body. It is hard to say what McCandless goal was, but if there is one thing we know, it’s the fact that McCandless wanted and traveled-filled life. McCandless travelled his last journey in Alaska. He attempted to survive, but nonetheless failed. Still, this might not count as a failure in McCandless mind. He died while accomplishing his goal, but his goal could never be accomplished in a
