Revolution. Innovation. The 1960’s introduced a whole new concept of simple chic fashion that changed the game forever. The industry was struck with bold statements spoke by men and women with tremendous confidence. Trends of the era were ever-shifting, and all boundaries were crossed, standards deviously defied. Looks began taking less and less effort, and the idea of natural beauty was slowly peering through the surface. The men’s luxury fashion industry evolved, and began to experiment with accessorizing, edgy pops of color, and high heeled boots. Men began to stray away from formal suits for casual occasions, and experimented with bright bold shirts underneath sleek suits. Color pop accessories sometimes followed. The flamboyant look was in, signalled by wider trousers and lapels, like those belonging to the blue checked Tommy Nutter. Tommy Nutter was a famous tailor of Great Britain, who reinvented the Savile Row suit in the 60’s (The Guardian UK: Tommy Nutter). Although women were quite the talk of the era, men also made some big transitions in their look and helped inspire a powerful movement towards men’s fashion today. The Great Revolution that has shaped the world today. Fashion above many things, became something to define you. In the Outsiders, by S.E Hinton tells of two social classes, the Greasers and the Socs. What these groups wore, and the fashion the used to express themselves laid a big foundation to who they were. What you choose to wear, and how you choose to wear it can actually be a bigger decision than what you may think. Everyone’s looking, always, the bigger question is… how do you want them to see you? What image do you want to put out into the world? In the Outsiders, the Greasers dressed dirtier, and were hair grease, and the overall image presents itself as dangerous, poor, and rough. The Socs dress in high class attire, and are always looking there best in public. Is Fashion all that matters?
