As Globalization exposed the nation-state to opportunities and challenges, Singapore has progressed from building a nation-state to becoming a global city. Singapore has always been practicing selective globalization to remain globally connected for the sake of national survival, yet retains traditions that protect dominant interests. In 2005, the government boldly lifted the long-standing casino ban, to reorient the economy towards tourism. Tourism, an aspect of globalisation, is a key aspect of Singapore’s economy. This move was a practice of economic globalization as Singapore was losing its tourism attractiveness and global competence.

Atlantic City had a boom in which people were building, developers were going in, there was that economic rush, but what we have seen in the past years has been a demise or a community.

This annual lottery reveals the negative aspects of this town’s Tradition, Savagery, Barbarism, and cold-heartedness. In this paper I will show why this town blindly follows these customs, not because it’s a tradition but because of the accepting wickedness that can be shown. Why does the town follow this foolish tradition? Throughout “The Lottery” the narrator tells that the people do not remember how the lottery began, and that some of the older people believe the lottery has changed over the years, that now people just want to get it over with as fast as possible.

Atlantic City was once the powerhouse of the east coast raking in tourists, large sums of money, and monopolizing the gambling industry. Nick Paumgarten wrote “The Death and Life of Atlantic City”, which states “The casino closures in Atlantic City have contributed to the loss of nearly 10,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics” (102). Four out of the twelve casinos closed which contributed to 8,000 of those jobs.
