1.Identify and describe several advantages and disadvantages of single-subject research. After examining the advantages and disadvantages, do you believe single-subject research is an efficient research method?
There are advantages and disadvantages from single-subject research. In single-subject research the information is clear understanding of the case. According to The Personnel and Guidance Journal, “one advantage of single-subject research is that it gives you an in-depth description of the case are possible”. Single-subject research can be used in different counseling situations. It can be used to counsel individuals in a group setting as well as single people. Single-subject research has flexibility for the model and it examine the effect of attribute variables for day to day contingencies”(The Personnel and Guidance Journal). Counselors evaluating one client could use single-subject research. It could be more credible. “Results of research and evaluation are more definitive and conclusive for specific clients than results of group research” (The Personnel and Guidance Journal). “Counselors that practice single-subject research has advantages during counseling. Information can be collected for one client. Counselors will come up with a solution to their client problem. The

Counseling research requires an enormous amount of studying and researching. Providing inaccurate information have a negative impact on data collected by counselors. “One disadvantage might pertain to the setting and the researcher’s inability to control for things that might interfere with the interview process or distract the participant during the interview” (Sheperis, Young, & Daniels, 2010, p.146). For example, the counselor is trying to interview a client with cafeteria full of children. This location will be a distraction. Therefore, the counselor should find a place where he or she can control the
• The accuracy of the information reported within the reports being used in the research study. • Recalling the incident for the victim can be very uncomfortable and upsetting. • There can also be limitations of some ethical obstacles for example if some cases are still open cases, information may not be able to be discussed. • With the survey sampling method, putting together a survey limits one from asking questions that normally may have been encountered in a one on one
Advantages and Disadvantages The William and Mary Research model is thorough and systematic. This is the major advantage I notice, and I think its effectiveness is in the structure it provides for both students and teachers. Teachers are able to clearly model each phase throughout the research process because each phase is clearly defined. Students are able to understand the relevance of each individual phase and the practicality of the progression.
Evaluation Single System Research Design in A Female Client in A Nursing Home Single system research design is a form of research that allows professionals to compare the performance of a single system before and after treatment. The single system may be an individual person, a single group, a single family, or a single organization. The goal in single system is to encourage positive behaviors, reduce negative behaviors. The target problem is equivalent to the dependent variable in group designs.
Discuss the methodological and ethical issues which are apparent in this study. How have the findings impacted the psychological field? One methodological issue with the Bain et al refrigerator study is that type of experiment used. Having used a laboratory experiment, all variables were under strict control and this does not reflect the true nature of the situation the children were placed in. Children trapped inside a refrigerator would not escape by pressing a panel on the floor, thus the experiment has features which do not reflect an accurate representation of a real life situation (Bain et al, 1958).
Therefore, it is necessary to clear any ambiguity. Important information is to be retained and used while irrelevant ones may be discarded. Counselor would have to look at the situation and exercise wisdom before embarking on the process of consultation and touching on the nature of the
An advantage of conducting a Survey is that it allows the researcher to collect a large amount of data over a short period of time. They can also be created and administered quickly and easily. A disadvantage of a Survey is that often times the answer choice on a survey may not reflect the participants true opinion. Case Study is a research method in which is single person is directly observed. This study is an open ended type of data collection.
Many times researchers doing reviews end up with a chronological catalog of all of the relevant sources reviewed instead of an evaluation that integrates previous research together explaining how it integrates into the proposed research program (Wang et al., 2015). Poor literature review fails to capture all sides of an argument and tends to be bias, avoiding to critically mention areas of agreement and disagreement (Shipman, 2014). Such a review is merely a collection of quotes and paraphrasing from other sources (Willig, 2013). Sadly enough most researchers undertaking psychological research are not skilled in doing a quality
As I learn more about counseling theories, I realize that it is important for a counselor to not act as an expert on a client’s life, rather, this role is solely
Research is vital in the field of counseling because it provides with proper data on the impact and effectiveness of counseling. Duffy and Chenail (2008) indicated, that quantitative research has helped counselor in the filed because it provides with values and dominated research can prove that treatment can be effective. Therefore, there has been studies prove
Additionally, as a counselor, it is important to be genuine with whatever feedbacks one presents to the patient and what one believes regarding the situation of the client. Mrs. Perez believes the more authentic and genuine he is with her patients, the more help he will be able to offer the clients. As a counselor, it is important to have a fine and professional interaction with one 's client but boundaries must be maintained. Through this, a counselor is able to demonstrate their focus on helping the patients by showing the client that they understand their problems. It also through such engagements that counselor is able to use the non-judgmental attention that does not require words for illustration in helping the patient.
The counselor could offer the client to be referred to the closest community
This literature review will be covering the topic on research paradigms. There are three major paradigms in the research paradigms which are the positivist paradigm research, interpretivist paradigm research and critical paradigm research. Each research paradigm has its own strengths and effectiveness due to their unique features which are specific to their particular approach as well as weaknesses. All researchers have their own beliefs and methods while conducting a research. Therefore, the ways of research studies conducted are vary.
Firstly, I need to identify the causes and formation of the difficulty situation of my client. I should not involve my own personal emotions when analysing the situation. Next, clarification of the situation is essential. The clients should figure out themselves on how to face the situation. An effective counsellor listen more than talks, and what they do say gives the client a sense of being heard and understood.
Introduction We live in an increasingly interconnected world. Human actions stretch to and resonate in every part of the world. Because of increased global connectedness, humanity now faces a myriad of new challenges, complexities, and problems. More and more, academics, educators, policymakers, and researchers have advocated for an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving in a twenty-first century world with its growing complexities and new challenges.
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
