In Sister Flowers, Mrs. Flowers was a role model for Maya Angelou. Mrs. Flowers to me was a humble woman with a kind heart who favored Maya Angelou. In the first line of Sister Flowers "Then I met, or rather got to know, the lady who threw me my first lifeline", expressed the main idea of the poem. Maya was raped as a young girl and instead of being she remained strong and found a role model or should I say character, Mrs. Flowers. Maya Angelou was an individual who did not have any individuality, but she decided to venture out for one. She was a very reserved women, but she did want praise from people who wanted to be a part of her life. I believe that is where the Character Mrs. Flowers came from.
