Education is everything. It makes the backbone of a modern and developed society. When children get a high quality education it opens up a life full of choices and opportunity for them; meanwhile everyone, children’s parents, teachers, and their communities benefit from this. To equip schools with qualified teachers and in the mean time to reduce the size of classes in public school, it has been the main concerns during the past several decades in the United States of America. Especially during the end of twentieth century it was a very hot debate among the scholars and policy makers whether to reduce the size of class in public schools. For this reason hundred of experiments and studies were conducted and billions of dollars were spent for …show more content…
In a smaller class in addition to more individualized student attention, there are fewer workloads for the teachers also. When it comes to common sense considering a class that has around 40 students to one teacher, of course, it is very hard for the teacher to control that particular class perfectly. Students who do not want to pay any attention to the lectures can sit at the end of the class and start chatting with their peers. Moreover, it is very easy for these students to go unnoticed till the end of the class. On the other hand, if a class is composed of fewer students it is very easy for a teacher to control that class and none of the students will be able to do disruptive work and go unnoticed till the end of the class. Fewer students means that each one gets attention from the teacher, and they are encouraged and pushed to take part and express their opinions. Furthermore, the results show that the benefits of smaller classes for the students who were in these classes till grade three, lasted through their high schools. These students were less likely to drop out and to graduate on time, more likely to understand hard subjects in high school easily and have higher acceptance of college than their peers do in normal classes. (Helen Pate-Bain, et al ,
Many people think that most American schools are satisfactory. That is far from what is actually happening. The harsh reality is that schools that are unsatisfactory do exist. In Jonathan Kozol’s “Fremont High School”, he points out the flaws of a high school located somewhere in Los Angeles. This helps shine light on differences in the quality of education in various areas of the country.
One of the reasons that Texas wanted its independence from Mexico was because Mexico failed to provide a system of public education. Texas received its independence from Mexico in 1836 and after being admitted into the Union in 1845, a bill was passed in 1854 establishing public education. A major milestone of public education was the case Brown vs. Board of Education, which ended public segregation in public schools. A major reform that the public education system in Texas has experienced was the Gilmer-Aikin Laws in 1949. “They replaced the elected office of State Superintendent with an appointed administrator, raised teachers ' salaries without regard to sex or race, elevated the role of the state in what had here to fore been a local responsibility,
We all have experienced a class that doesn't grab our attention or interest. However, as students, we intend to do the minimum work to pass the course. "Professors have ceased to expect genuine engagement from students and often give good grades (B or better) to work that is at minimally adequate." (Gutting 454).
As you can perceive, unlike Campus, with smaller class sizes Haysville High gives each and every student an opportunity to have one on one time with their teachers. To put it differently, Campus High is overpopulated, and the school seemed “crammed.” For instance, there are countless classrooms at Campus that are so full; they do not even have enough desks for the students. Thus, Haysville High is diminutive enough to focus attention on every student, and makes all of us feel accepted. For all these reasons, Haysville High’s environment is more conducive to learning than Campus is.
It is hard to learn in a classroom when there are bugs crawling everywhere causing distractions. Another large problem at Maryville is the amount of people per class. The average class size is thirty people, but some classes have as many people as thirty-five. With this many people in such a small classroom, it feels overwhelming and impossible for the teachers to show the students the amount of attention they
Achieving an accurate education system is not an easy function for any nation. The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way by Amanda Ripley, is a wonderful book that focusing on the important of the education and how can the changing on the education system and schools reforms change the whole country for the best. This book had a positive impact on me, it gives me hope that each country in the world can create stronger and more creative education system; a system that can achieve students and serves both equity and rigor. Importantly, that can happen if we think first what are our educational problems and how can we resolve them in a smart and wise way that can help us to have magnificent results that benefits everyone, the
The current plight of the American education system is partly due to a serious shortage of teachers who can effectively instruct the students on the material and skills expected of their grade level and beyond. One reason may be because the current requirements for all teacher candidates are quite soft, as in many states, candidates are subject to only a number of requirements, including a bachelor’s degree, the completion of teacher training, an exam of school content knowledge, and other certifications (“Teacher Certification and Licensing Guide”). The most likely reason, however, of low-quality instruction in school is due to an inherent lack of intrinsic motivation and discipline in many teachers to do their best for students to excel in school and life, and if the teachers are too lazy and incompetent to do their jobs, students are more likely to follow that example and do so likewise in their own lives. This is shown in a chapter from Theodore R. Sizer’s book Horace's Compromise: The Dilemma of the American High School called “What High School Is,” where a story is told from the perspective of Mark, a typical high school student in the United States, including
This can sometimes be blamed on the student and how much they want out of a class but many times this is just way students are taught to learn and how they have always gotten through school. College’s need to take note of this problem and find a way to change it. Today’s education system and colleges are too focused on letter grades and not the betterment of students and expanding their knowledge. Getting good grades is the main focus of today’s student. Because of this, unfortunately, they
Novelist, John Taylor Gatto, in his speech essay, “Why Schools Don’t Education”, conveys schools aren’t as educational as they should be. John’s purpose is to narrate the idea that teachers and school district aren’t putting enough effort to educate children and to also motivate more teachers to help bust up children’s education. He adopts a passionate tone in order to appeal in his that education should be taken serious. In order, to convey his appeal of the subject he uses rhetorical analysis to help drill in the audience.
The small class sizes allow students to get personalized attention and made the transition into the college setting much smoother.
Students should not be allowed to select their own classes because they would just pick the classes with friends in them not the classes they need to learn. Students would just pick classes to be with their friends and would just mess around all day instead of actually learning. “Subjects are introduced at school level so that students learn about the importance of each subject and the role it plays in our day to day activities(science, maths, history, geography etc).” (Vipul Agawane, Quora.)Students should not be allowed to select their own classes because they would just pick the classes with friends in them and no the classes that they actually need to learn. Schools could easily fix the problem of students choosing classes with friends in them by adding more than one teacher teaching that subject and by picking the students in each class randomly.
With class, there is a strong indication of where a person residential area is. Living in Trumbull the property tax is high because the houses are big, and the majority of the town are homeowners. Thus, creates a bigger pool of money for the local government to fund the public schools in my area. My high school is ranked 20th in the state of Connecticut (Niche). Where twenty-five AP classes are offered to give greater opportunity for individualized programming and accomplishments.
Why the school system is bad - Arshia Education is very important for everyone and it will only get more important. Schooling is just plain bad. It used to serve a purpose, like the heart in a person 's body, but now it is basically just boring students more and more. Nowadays at the end of the day, we all just want to go home.
Teaching is not controlling, but rather working with the students to learn, grow, and succeed together. By having strong student-teacher relationships with students, the classroom will be a place for each member to express their feelings and work together. Academic success depends on these close relationships and guidance that teachers and students have with one another. Classroom management aims at establishing student self-control through a process of promoting positive student achievement and behavior. Thus, academic achievement, teacher efficacy, and teacher and student behavior are directly linked with the concept of classroom management.
Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.
