Disliking Books Summary In Gerald Graff’s work “Disliking Books” the author explains how he is surprised that he would become a celebrated writer and literary critic because he formerly despised reading. Graff, who grew up in a tough working class Chicago neighborhood, grew up thinking reading was boring and irrelevant. Graff’s parents brought him modern adventure books and classics that have traditionally interested young men, but it didn’t work. Since he was listless and lacked ambition Graff “chose” liberal arts and majored in English when he started college.

Commentary #4. The most important theme of Fahrenheit 451 is restriction of freedom of speech because of the fear to offend another person in the society. There are strict censorship laws in the totalitarian society of Fahrenheit 451. In the novel the job of a fireman is to start a fire and watch the forbidden literature burn, these firemen had never read the books they burn nor were they all allowed to keep one for more than 24 hours.

This society makes people feel guilty for reading books. In the real world, society does something similar to this, just with opinions and not books. In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, a story is told about a man named Guy Montag, a fireman who burns books in a society where books are illegal and everyone is trying to be happy in the wrong ways. Montag ends up questioning the ordinary and discovers that books are the answer, not the curse, so he escapes society to start all over. Through Montag’s experiences and influences, he learns that there is more to the strange life he is living, which changes his character. “It was a pleasure to burn” (Bradbury 1); says Guy Montag. Montag is content with his way of living.
Cigarettes and smoking symbolize for stephen king as something bad. For her this is something bac because in the short story " Quitters, Inc. " She talks about why oneof the characters did not like cigarettes and the reason was because they were bad. In the middle of the story said something about cigarettes killed one of the character's family member died of the cigarettes.
The picture I chose, shows an image that is in the public eye of today’s society, the image of smoking and how people can be affected by it. In this picture, viewers can see how smoking can really affect one’s life and how the addiction can be harmful to not only the outside of the body, but also the inside. This photo shows a controversial side of the appeal that people become addicted to cigarettes and, even after trying to go cold turkey, some people still cannot get over the addiction. The first thing that is noticed is the noose. The noose is being wrapped around the woman’s neck comparing the cigarette to the noose in attempt to show death.
