With a population of about 420,000 residents the Kansas City Missouri Police Department provides many services for victims of domestic and violent crimes in Kansas City. Not only does the police department provide services to victims that suffered violent crimes they also provide services for victims of robberies. “The mission of the Victim Assistance Unit is dedicated through professionalism, honor and integrity, with community partners to consistently and positively impact the quality of life for the citizens of Kansas City Missouri by assisting crime victims, witnesses, survivors, families, and neighborhoods experiencing violent crime or trauma (KCPD, 2015).”
Domestic violence is a universal phenomenon, with millions of people as victims and perpetrators (. It destroys homes and families. Victimization occurs regardless of race, gender, religion, class, and sexual orientation. The term is often used to refer to violence that occurs between two people in an intimate relationship, but extends to violence against children and the elderly (Valiulis, 2014, p.124). I use the term domestic violence in this research refers to intimate partner violence. Globally, 35% of women have endured either physical or sexual abuse at the hands of their partner (World Health Organization, 2012, p.2). Unfortunately
At Adult Protective Services majority of our work involves investigation of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. At Adult Protective Services our job is to protect the vulnerable elderly population, as well as the population that have disabilities. “Only APS is statutorily authorized and responsible for investigating elder and vulnerable adult abuse and taking steps to protect the victims, and it is generally only APS that helps the most frail and incapacitated older persons”(Quin, 2012, p.68). When abuse is suspected, a case worker will reach out to all parties involved, such as the alleged victim, alleged perpetrator, and all collaterals. Unlike many other professions, case worker are not required to have any written consent to speak with

MARACs multi-agency conferences involve voluntary and statutory organisation agents who share information concerning adult with high risk of domestic violence, with the aim to increase the victim protection by making a coherent action planning (Robinson & Tregidga, 2005). Although, according to Robinson (2004) the incidences of domestic violence are lower in older people, however, the role of the MARAC is similar to that of the MASH, as providing a ground for information sharing and collaborative works (Pinkney, Penhale, Manthorpe, Perkins, Reid, & Hussein, S.
Ivan Illich’s speech to the Conference on InterAmerican Student Projects entitled To Hell With Good Intentions is ironic, seeing as he criticizes humanitarian efforts in Mexico and Latin America to the people who volunteer to help these impoverished countries. His opposition to missionaries does not stem from personal views against helping others; rather, from the impact that is actually made upon these nations. Illich’s message that American missionaries are harmful despite their good intentions should be taken to heart by all American aid workers in order to reduce the negative impact of boasting American culture into impoverished Latin American nations.
The goal of the Child Abuse and Prevention Treatment Act (CAPTA) was to improve safety, permanency, and well being of children. Laws against domestic violence are recent and it wasn't until the mid-1990s that each state had protection order laws. Even with laws in place, police and prosecutors are frequently slow to act, and by the time an abuse survivor seeks police or court intervention, he or she has typically experienced repeated and severe abuse. The question of how to prevent abuse persists. (Stoever, 9)
Having knowledge of social policies is essential to address elder abuse because it is crucial to have valued information to provide to the service user or how to report any type of abuse or neglect with seniors. In Canada, elder abuse legislation is a responsibility of federal, provincial and municipal (Podnieks, 2008). Likewise, the federal Criminal Code (1985) defines the standards for criminal justice through the country. Hence, this code has strengths and limitation regarding elder abuse.
Domestic violence has been around for many years. It is even mentioned in the bible, Judges 19. Unfortunately, it is still a prevalent issue that is on the rise. Dr. Miller (2009) mentions in his book, “The domestic violence movement, also referred to as the battered women’s movement, has a long history, although it picked up steam with the advent of the feminist movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1971, Erin Pizzey opened the first battered women’s shelter in Chiswick, England. The first shelters in the United States opened their doors in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota; Pasadena, California; and Phoenix, Arizona, in 1972. Soon thereafter, a shelter opened in Boston, Massachusetts, and Casa Myrna Vasquez, also in Boston, opened its doors as the first shelter providing services primarily for Latinas. The first support group for battered lesbians began in Seattle in 1985. Awareness and services have increased exponentially over the past three decades, and as of September 2007, a total of 1,949 domestic violence programs were operational across the United States.”
For the past two years, I have been involved in the Carmax Cares community service month. We provided assistance to the Foster Care Support Foundation in Roswell, Georgia. This organization sends out gently worn closes, shoes and other necessities to support foster care providers in the state of Georgia. We packaged items to be sent out and organized their warehouse inventory. On campus I am an active member of SABAC as well as the Georgia Club.
Setting up district shooting matches, making sure the arena is available for horse events, educating farmers on wheat growth, traveling around the state for meetings and certifications. Does this sound like a job with numerous responsibilities? These are just a few of the jobs an extension agent may encounter on a daily basis. Extension agents assess the needs of the county they work for. Based on these needs a number of educational programs will be set up to assist the community. Many of these programs are for adults as well as youth in the area. According to H.C Sanders, “Efforts for more efficient farms, better homes, higher incomes, and standards of living, increasing the technical knowledge of rural people, continue to form the basic core
