Smog is chemicals and pieces of burned coal trapped in fog molecules. In “Killer Smog” and “Smog So Thick Beijing Comes To A Stand Still” have many differences and similarities. In both texts, there is very deadly smog in the air. In text one, after the smog went away the government tried their best to make sure that it never happens again by moving factories and making laws, however, in text two the government did not care and just shut down some businesses for a while then started it back up so that is why Beijing keeps getting smog. In “Killer Smog" it told us that 8,000 people died from inhaling the smog alone. Then 4,000 more people died from respiratory problems from the smog damaging their lungs. In "Killer Smog”, London has a very …show more content…
In “Killer Smog" the people in London didn’t know that the smog was deadly to inhale, so they still went outside when there was smog. I know this because, “What few people understood was that smog wasn’t just dirty and smelly—it was also dangerous. It contained toxic chemicals and particulates—specks of unburned coal. As Brian and his family searched outside for Tarzan, their lungs were filling with this poison” (26). It is telling us that the people of London did not know at the time that the smog was toxic to inhale. So many people kept inhaling the smog then eventually fell very sick or died. Likewise, in “Smog So Thick Beijing Comes To A Standstill”, people were alarmed with a warning that it was not safe to go or breathe outside. Only certain people with certain jobs that drove cars that did not harm the environment could go outside. The text states, “Residents across this city awoke to an environmental state of emergency as poisonous air quality prompted the government to close schools, force drivers off the road, and shut down factories” (28). It is saying that many drivers and places were closed due to the toxic smog polluting the air
“Trying to FInd Chinatown” written in 1996 by David Henry Hwang, deals with racial identity. According to the dictionary, one’s identity consist of the qualities and beliefs that distinguish one person or group from another. In his play, Hwang created two characters who have different ideas of what those qualities and beliefs are. In the story Benjamin identifies himself as Asian, even though he is descent of Asian genetics.
Seasons typically divide a year into four parts (spring, summer, autumn, and winter). Weather is constantly changing throughout the year based on the current location of the sun in accordance to earth. The world relies on seasons to thrive, for instance, autumn is when nature shows its true beauty, bringing rain to quench the parched lips of summer. Although the changing of seasons may not be apparent in certain parts of the world, they are the key to human life. In “Something Uneasy in the Los Angeles Air,” Adrian Glick Kudler informs the public about Santa Ana winds in addition to introducing writers to back up her ideas.
When there were just farm working and hand made goods everyone got to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding them. When the factories were introduced and all the beautiful pastures were messed up because of factory building many people couldn’t find that natural beauty that they once had. In Document 13 it speaks a little about what all the smoke did to the skies of London. They described London as one big black cloud. The government should have taken a more natural or nature friendly
The new invention of the steam engine added to the pollution to the air due to the smoke released from the machines. With the release of chemicals from the machinery, the surrounding air that the citizens
In 1910 550 million tons of coal was being mined each year… ”Burning coal in such large quantities without much regard to filtering the smoke emitted into the air resulted in significant air pollution.” The Business owners were making the workers burn so much coal that the workers got all types of lung diseases just by breathing in all the fumes. The pollution from the smoke was also so bad that you could see the smog floating over industrial towns. Another example of pollutions is, “pollution of waterways that border cities.
which shows that the poisonous air is harming Rachel, Lyddie’s sister. “All the girls have them” shows that all the girls in the factory have coughing due to the air. Additionally, the text reveals that “Now that she thought of it, she could hardly breathe, the air was so laden with moisture and debris.” Which shows the air is filled with moisture and debris and is not clean whatsoever. The air is very bad in the factory.
Some of these fumes can cause brain damage if breathed for too long and the Industrial Revolution was one of the biggest causes of pollution. They were
Air pollution is believed to contribute to numerous deaths through the augmentation of various illnesses. Close vicinity to areas which receive a highly concentrated amount of traffic results in a 20 percent decreased lung size in children than average, which initiates respiratory dysfunction. The exhaust emitted from trucks causes the quality of air to immediately rise to a point that is 4,000 times as polluted with “particulate matter” as is considered suitable for a person’s health.
“The Filth They Breathe in China,” by Michael Auslin reflects on what is happening to the air and water in China. This article describes the air pollution and why it is happening. It tells us what this is doing to our health and what scientist are saying. China 's air pollution has had great deal of problems and that the united states should step in to help generate better lives.
First, the widespread use of cars led to an increase in air pollution, as the internal combustion of engines from vehicles produced high levels of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and other harmful gasses. This polluted the air and caused serious health problems for people, particularly in cities where traffic was heavy according to (N.C. Government & Heritage Library). Secondly the noise created by the cars was a new form of pollution that was unheard of. The sound of horns, loud engines, and brakes noises disrupted the peace and quiet that cities were used to, leading to people complaining. Another danger was air pollution.
Residents of the border are exposed to air pollution from an assortment of sources, one including automobiles and industries. Pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide raise concerns of health for the residents of the border region. Thermoelectric plants and smelters are known to release sulfur dioxide into the air, causing problems for residents. Several of the border cities are facing major air pollution problems associated with the increase of numbers and the usage of truck and automobiles
Some cities in china have everyone wear gas masks when they go outside. That 's just tragic! Can you imagine getting lung cancer for standing outside for 10 minutes? Cars can release 2 different kinds of pollution. There is primary pollution that goes straight into the air to pollute it and secondary pollution.
According to BBC News (2016), air pollution in Beijing is always in unhealthy stage. Based on 2008 to 2015, Beijing had about 49 out of 100 percent was in unhealthy stage, 14 out of 100 percent was in very unhealthy stage, and 4 out of 100 percent was in hazardous stage. Staying in a bad air or water pollution country is very tough for life. Recent research has shown that there have 4,400 people killed in pollution per day. Sometimes, the school would cancel the class because of air pollution.
Castil, Czarina Beata N.11-HA1 Informative Speech Outline Topic: Air pollution Specific Purpose: I will inform where air pollution takes place, how it affects us economically and how we can help keep the air cleaner. I. Introduction a. Attention Material: Breathe in. Now, breathe out.
There are many problems that threatens society and one problem in particular, air pollution is a problem that threatens everyone. Air pollution is the contamination of air with pollutants that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment. It began to be a problem when humans discovered the uses of fire and then the amount of air pollution exponentially grew after the industrial revolution, and is still a problem even today. The largest causes of air pollution are from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and gas emissions from manufacturing plants. There are ways that ordinary people can help contribute to prevent air pollution and or else face the dangerous consequences of polluted air.
