Americans find soccer boring to watch. Soccer benefits the defense more than the offense. Does the sport of soccer need to change or the view of the people for the sport. Firstly, Americans want their athletes to be the strongest, fastest, and tallest people to have graced the earth to inspire that awe moment. According to Craig Keolauni's post on TheSportster, "In a country where players who are close to being seven feet tall get shoe contracts and behemoth muscular sluggers get rewarded by hitting balls over outfield walls, running around for 90 minutes without achieving success comes with very little reward."
What is the Evolution of Soccer? Charles Darwin once stated, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change." Though Darwin might’ve been talking about the evolution of species, the idea of evolution stays true to sports, including soccer. Soccer has evolved in so many ways from where it all took place, to it’s transition to today, to the equipment, and the impact it’s left all around the world. When observing a sport as popular as soccer, it’s hard to imagine that it’s origin is difficult to find.
How to kick a soccer ball is very difficult if you haven’t played soccer or anything near soccer it will be difficult to learn. I’m doing this because there are some people out there that still don’t know how to kick a soccer ball. This has been from a sport that dates back to the 19th century, where England had the idea. It is a sport played all around the world it is a really famous port in England, Mexico, Spain, and Brazil. This isn’t the only thing you need to know to play soccer there is passing, defending and obviously shooting. The is a World Cup that every country has a soccer team and then they compete against each other but it only happens four years apart.
The game has always been thought to be “Americas Pastime” but in modern society some people believe that may not be the case. Is baseball Americas Pastime? It is a huge debate that has been developing over the past ten to twenty years. Although baseball is thought to be Americas favorite sport, The World Series is the third most watched sporting event which trails behind both football and soccer. Baseball may not be the most watched sport but the sales in popular baseball movies in the past thirty years can also prove its popularity.
In other words, I believe soccer has changed my life and became an ongoing achievement in my life, that will forever stay in my heart forever. When I am at practice I think about the possibility that my team is not only our team, but they are my
For people who do not watch sports, all sports games might seem the same; they do not understand what the point of the game is, rules what are implied in the game and what ball are used in different sports games. The most popular ball game in the United States of America is football; however leading ball game in the world is soccer. Millions of sports fans follow daily their favorite team- what are their scores, are they going to play in playoffs etc. Many people would say that football and soccer have nothing in common, but they are wrong; they do have few similarities. Soccer and football- both sports are based on rules that evolved during the 19th century.
Soccer means a lot in many countries all over the world because it actually means something to them. It is an honor to represent your family in the pitch and during the pitch. Leaving a lot of people speechless on how well you play because not everybody can control a soccer ball with their feet and there's tournaments that bring every teams all over the world together. Football's major event is held here in the United States. It only involves the one country which is United States, itself.
This was the beginning of my journey and how I came to love soccer. Frequently, I was questioned by my brother and friends, “ Why do you play soccer only. Mexicans play this sport?”. I did not know how to answer this question until my passion for soccer became stronger. Soon I began to question if I should continue playing or not.
If I would have chosen to stick with soccer I would most likely be playing in a college league somewhere with my school already paid for. The only reason I did not stick with it; however, is because the passion for soccer was not like it was for basketball.
JP, Do you not think that the popularity of soccer in the United States is directly correlated with the lack of knowledge that most have about soccer? Would a soccer team be able to share the same field as a football team in a bigger city such as Atlanta? Soccer is a sport which is rapidly gaining popularity, and in my opinion, it might take some of the popularity away from baseball and basketball. With the rapidly increasing number of children and teenagers who are both participating and watching soccer matches, soccer’s popularity has become obvious. While soccer is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, the target audience is still not as large as that of many other sports including football, basketball, baseball, etc.
Soccer in Latin America Soccer to a great extent is the most popular sport in the Latino America communities. Specifically, it is more dominant in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia and Peruvian (Cuellar 722-733). Soccer is engrained into children at a very young age. They grow into a family with an already created passion for the sport. Latin Americans conduct the sport on a regular basis, and it is not only a sport but also a source of recreation and leisure.
One of my favorite activities is to play soccer, I have been playing soccer since a very young age. I first got interested in soccer when my brother began to play and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. When my brother began to become more invested in soccer I did to. As I have continued to play I have become more and more interested in doing my best and building on the skills I already had. At Saint Francis I hope to continue my love for soccer and share my talents with others.
Soccer is becoming one of the most popular sports in China. More and more people are playing soccer due to its popularity. There are many soccer leagues in China that are formed so that young people may compete in soccer. Competition is fierce in these leagues and it is difficult to win. There are those who train night and day to win, however, there is more to soccer than individual skill.
This was my first year on a varsity team and only my second year playing soccer competitively, so joining the team was especially daunting. But, outside of practice hours (4-5 days per week for 2-3 hours), I practiced at the park and trained with my cousin, who played soccer in college, to improve my skills. I even played in the house, which my mother did not appreciate. But, I genuinely wanted to get better and pull my weight and be part of the team. The team gave me a sense of community and pushed me to persevere in the face of adversity.
