I chose REBT as my theory of counseling for the reason that REBT is a more directive form of psychotherapy and the role of the therapist is like a teacher who actively builds a healthy and rational outlook. As a former teacher, this theory suits my personality. REBT counselors help their clients to identify, challenge, and adjust maladaptive beliefs and behaviors. This theory is more structured and directive and includes homework assignments. REBT is the founding form of cognitive behavior therapy. Moreover, I chose Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) as my career theoretical orientation. I believe REBT and SCCT are similar in their focus on cognition or individual thought processes. SCCT was developed out of Albert Bandura’s social
1. Even with our medical advances, the United States ranks 29th because of lack of health care for some individuals but also the lifestyle Americans have. Another reason is that class statuses correspond with our health outcomes. What I meant about this, is that lower and middle class individuals are exposed to more health threats than higher class. This is the connections between healthy bodies and healthy bank accounts and race/ethnicity.
Survivors Support Group I am currently on the mental health track, so looking at a potential group that I might encounter would encompass female victims of domestic violence and abuse (DVA) which is also referred to as intimate partner violence (IPV) and rape or sexual assault victims (as statues vary depending on the states definition). Both forms of abuse stem from a power and control dynamic. The use of force during sex is not about sexual pleasure for the perpetrator, instead the pleasure comes from being in a position of power and having control over another human being. The act of hurting and demeaning the woman is the real pleasure. DVA/IPV consists of physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse.
All things considered, the best treatment option for Ryan is Motivational Interviewing Therapy—a Person-Centered Therapy. To point out, the clinician can utilize the motivational interviewing technique with five main principles express empathy, develop discrepancy, avoid argumentation, roll with resistance, support self-efficacy. Not to mention, using other tools such as open-ended questions, reflective listening, and empathetic responding. Thus, collaborating a bridge for communication, which works by evoking the client 's own motivation for change and adherence to treatment. Nevertheless, the main goal for change is ambivalence and the development of discrepancy, between the present behavior and the desired behavior in a non-threatening manner.
As an intern counselor, a client was referred to therapy due to personal and conflicted issues. This theory is about career decision marketing and development based on social learning. Career decisions are the product of an uncountable number of learning experiences made possible by encounters with the people, institutions and events in a person’s particular environment. Krumboltz propose that people choose their careers based on what they have learned. The four main factors that influence career choice are genetics influences, environmental conditions and events, learning experiences and task approach skills. Genetic influences are inherited rather than learned such as physical appearance.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological therapy. The emphasis is on recognising and modifying negative thoughts and beliefs and maladaptive behaviours, subsequently impacting on mood and emotions. I am a Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Castlebar, Co.Mayo that offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy sessions to clients based in Castlebar and the wider Mayo hinterland. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH) is a combination of cognitive, behavioural and hypnosis interventions.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), is a highly effective therapy for anti-social behaviour. This treatment focuses on changing how a person thinks and acts in social situations. Individuals with particularly aggressive anti-social behaviours usually have maladaptive social cognitions. This includes hostile attribution bias, which lead to negative behavioural outcomes. However, this treatment has been found to be more effective for older children than younger children.
I am very interested in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the Wright Institute. In reviewing graduate programs, and deliberation with other professors, it is apparent that the Wright Psy. D program has an excellent Clinical Psychology program. As my resumé indicates, I can offer this program my ability to administer multiple itinerary proposals, effectively develop and execute daily activities in which are consistent with the facility and department policy.
Carl Rogers’ Client Centred Therapy The session’s counsellor is Carl Rogers and the client’s issue is the grief and fear from the loss of her twins during pregnancy. The session was thirty minutes long and was not like a typical session. The session was done in a stage where the privacy of the client was not concealed. It was an open session that aimed more towards what it meant to be a client centred therapy.
In therapy, if the undesirable behaviors can be picked out than the client and counselor can work together to get rid of those less desirable behaviors. The modern-day behavior therapy has 6 stages: building the relationship, clinical assessment focusing on problem areas and setting goals, choosing techniques and working on goals, assessment of goal completion and closure and follow-up. Each one of these stages has an important role in building a healthy client/counselor relationship. Then we see that with REBT the therapist is not worried about building a good caring relationship with the client. Instead, they focus on pointing out the negative or distorted beliefs they have.
Susan is a 32 year old Japanese female who enters treatment for what she calls “anxiety attacks”. She tells you that, “What if I have one of those awful attacks when I am at the store. What if it happens at a restaurant? Oh my gosh, what if I faint at my daughter’s school.
Renowned psychiatrist and researcher Judith Lewis Herman articulately stated, “After a traumatic experience, the human system of self-preservation seems to go onto permanent alert, as if the danger might return at any moment” (Herman, 1992, p. 16). Herman’s poignant words succinctly define the daily experience of people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). As of 2015, there is no standard treatment plan to combat PTSD, however, combining eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy with cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has shown positive results in aiding patients minimize and/or relieve symptoms associated with PTSD. Post-traumatic stress disorder can occur after an individual endures an incapacitating
The workforce now is mobile and rootless since the dynamically changing environment causes it to be tough to settle down in one particular location where working outside of one’s own country is normal. The diverse career workforce have several distinct professions in a life time where people will get to enter the job of their interest. The therapy group session started promptly at 7p.m. The session was an hour long in duration. The facilitator introduced himself and the disorder he is was diagnosed with. He also stated the purpose of the group session. After the facilitator introduced himself the remaining members introduced themselves by stating their name and their diagnosis.
As a result of the variation of MDD between individuals, organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Diagnosis and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-V) have developed diagnostic criteria. The WHO describes a Major Depressive episode as a period of time lasting at least 2 weeks where the individual experiences a depressed mood and loss of interest/pleasure along with at least 4 additional symptoms across different changes in functioning. Examples of these functions include, but are not limited to, sleeping, eating, energy, concentration, self-image, and weight.1 The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM – V) characterizes Major Depressive Disorder in a similar,
