A) What constitutes as Social & Cultural Problem? Simply put, social and cultural problems are the unwanted, inconvenient and often 'undesirable' (1) conditions occuring, recurring and consistent with a/any society's fabric. They often prove to be disrupted and harmful for the collective 'well-being' (2) of a society. The attributes therein inherent to any social problem have a consistency to reflect in victims with a group or class relevant to that victim. Sociologists like Frank L.K., and H.A. Phelps put forth their definitions clarifying the need to 'remove or correct' such 'dangerous and intolerable' social problems in order to 'safeguard' the society we live in. By the same academic definition of social and cultural problems, this …show more content…
Problems like, schools being at extensive distance, lack of free curriculum/ books facilities and lack of fee concessions enabled lower levels of enrollment and a higher dropout rate among female students. Long traveling is often looked down upon in many societies due to security constraints that perpetuate feelings of insecurity lead by occurring incidents unfathomable to most families. Another constraint that became predominant was the prevalent poverty. The lack of financial resources therein becomes perhaps the biggest hurdle towards girls attaining decent …show more content…
When it comes to addressing the education challenges within Pakistan is for the government to make education a priority in their policies, and therein increase the budget for education. Experts need to be hired who can accumulate data and help the government in inaugurating state schools geographically accessible to the population. The areas where schools are already made, government teams can be sent in to inspect to check the present educational standards and propose addition changes. Places where primary schools are developed but no secondary schools or high education, the government can look into funding towards higher education. The private sector and government sectors can work together to overcome these issues, the government can give incentives to private schools where the state is unable to expand. A campaign, probably nationwide, to raise awareness about the importance of girls' education can help people open their minds up. The campaign can include understanding the popular mindset, and addressing the problems so. Madarsaas, and Islamic Institutes which have a dominant say within a particular community can be sat with, dialogued and made understand the importance of educating
In Social Problems, Anna Leon-Guerrero (2016) she states, “… The functional perspective, examines the functions or consequences of the structure of society. Functionalist use a macro perspective, focusing on how society maintains social order” (13). Society has created expectations on what is viewed as acceptable or unacceptable behavior and this can include criminal behavior. This is any deviation from the social norms that are agreed by the majority of the community and the violation of any existing laws that is passed by legislation. For an example, a single parent losses’ his or her job and are worried whether the rent is covered with his or her last paycheck or whether they will qualify for food stamps.
Introduction: We as a society face many issues. Due to our diversity as a country, the values and beliefs of one culture battle against another. II. We must address the current standing issues that we face, but before we can do that, we must understand them.
A social problem is an aspect of life that people are concerned about and would like to change. It consists of two components: the objective requirement that an aspect of society can be measured. . The objective condition in the case of abortion entails the question whether abortions are legal, who obtains an abortion, and under what circumstances is an abortion secured (Henslin, 2008). The second component is the subjective condition; This is the concern that a significant number of people have regarding the objective condition. In the case of abortion, the personal condition involves distress that a pregnant woman must carry the unwanted baby to full term (Henslin, 2008).
1. The two sociological perspectives that I will be writing about are conflict theory and symbolic interactionism. There are two conflict theories of a social problem Marxist Conflict theory and Non-Marxist Conflict theory. The importance of using social perspective when studying the Marxist and Non-Marxist conflict theories allows individuals a better understanding of the conflicts we face in average life such as class inequality, alienation, and conflicts in competing values in social groups.
Social issues such as high cost of medical expense, limited access to healthy and affordable food and people being marginalization based on their livelihood. These issues are caused by systematic problems that affect minorities within the countries.
Achieving an accurate education system is not an easy function for any nation. The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way by Amanda Ripley, is a wonderful book that focusing on the important of the education and how can the changing on the education system and schools reforms change the whole country for the best. This book had a positive impact on me, it gives me hope that each country in the world can create stronger and more creative education system; a system that can achieve students and serves both equity and rigor. Importantly, that can happen if we think first what are our educational problems and how can we resolve them in a smart and wise way that can help us to have magnificent results that benefits everyone, the
With it being 2018 and America being one of the most diverse countries in the world, it faces many social problems. A social problem is any behavior or condition that has a negative effect for a large amount of people. As the population of America steadily increases so does the amount of social problems. This is because the more people there are, there is more opinions, beliefs, and cultures. America’s population today is 323 million people.
C. Wright Mills puts forth in Ch. 1 “The Promise” that the discipline of sociology is focused primarily on the ability to distinguish between an individuals “personal troubles” and the “public issues” of one’s social structure. In the context of a contemporary society, he argues that such issues can be applied by reappraising what are products of an individual’s milieu and what are caused by the fabric of a society. The importance of this in a contemporary society is that it establishes the dichotomy that exists between an individual’s milieu and the structure of their very society.
1.1 Introduction In this essay I will be discussing the sociological imagination and the problems of families. The sociological imagination allows us to see the difference between personal problems and public issues and be able to link them. It basically allows a person to think outside of their personal perspectives and see beyond the outer appearance. 1.2
The sociological perspective encourages us to explore societies’ problems from a non-biased perspective. When investigating controversial issues it is quintessential to keep one’s opinion out of the equation. As C. Wright Mills stated in his 1959 essay “The Promise”, “Problems and their solutions don’t just involve individuals; they also have a great deal to do with the social structures in our society” (Leon-Guerrero, 2015). Eliminating personal experiences and self-perception creates an even playing field to determine fact from fiction.
Perspective is a chosen approach that can be used to study any subject in the field of sociology. These perspectives highlight the diverse methods an individual selects to analyze a theme and how they perceive the society in general. Three sociological perspectives include functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspectives (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016, p. 2). Throughout this paper, I examine how we analyze the role of television from the functional, conflict, and interactionist approaches. Functionalist perspective on a macro-sociological level places far more emphasis on “the collective life or communal existence than on the individual” (Thompson, Hickey, & Thompson, 2016).
Plenty of students in the United States dread going to school and would much rather use this time to play video games, watch TV, or even sleep. But in third world countries, children, especially girls, do not have the opportunity to receive an education. These girls would exchange anything in order to attend school and have an opportunity to be independent, educated, and equal to their male counterparts. Governments need to implement policies that guarantee girls education in order to promote gender equality, boost their economy, and prevent child marriage. Research has shown that educating girls will not only benefit each individual girl, but also their community and country as a whole.
Social Problems in Societies Social problems are issues which are considered to affect majority if not all members of a society either directly or indirectly. Whenever people come to live together in a social setting, conflict arises from their differences in opinions regarding political issues, religion, ethnic issues, cultural practices and other health and hygiene issues. In such a situation, we can say a society inevitably develops social problems. The various social issues present today vary from society to society, and as such, we cannot say that all societies face similar social issues.
Pakistan has now been improving a bit in quiet a few years. India has also been improving their standard of education. India had cost around $40 billion in the year of 2008 for private education market. But they should still focus on their professors who have not got a PhD or a master’s degree. And there is one more problem, according to me, is that they should also spend money on the government schools in the rural areas because there is a lot of poverty still in India and not many people can afford to send their children to private schools.
According to Dr. Jose Rizal “Ang kabataan ang siyang pag-asa ng bayan” that’s why education should be plan wisely. Having a good quality of education is having a powerful community; if people in the community are educated then economy will be better. If we want to have a better economy of coarse we should have knowledge and skillful graduates that industry needs. To meet the goal we must improve our education system and the key to that is to implement and support k-12 K-12 was implementing starting 2011 and by 2013 president Aquino signed the k-12 into law, adding 3 years to country basic education curriculum.
