A . REPORT Introduction- What? 1. Crime- an action or omission which constitutes an offence and is punishable by law. Crime is an act committed in violation of law where the consequence of conviction by a court is punishment, especially where the punishment is a serious one such as imprisonment. A crime is a serious offence. Crime is an action or an instance of negligence that is deemed injurious to the public welfare or morals or to the interests of the state and that is legally prohibited. Examples of crime are sexual assault, rape, robbery, murder, domestic and gang violence, terrorism, adultery, fraud, theft, drinking and driving, the selling or smuggling of drugs, human trafficking and man slaughter. Whilst people are on drugs or drinking alcohol they can’t think straights and make good choices so end up committing crimes without thinking of the severe consequences. Gangs usually commit crimes for material gain or in order to keep them busy as gang members normally don’t participate in school activities. 3) The impact of the social issues- who it affects Crime affects everybody in South Africa. In a survey done specifically on how crime affects the people in Pretoria it shows that anxiety as a result of crime affects not only the victims of crime but the non-victims as well. Anxiety around crime is not being addressed in this country because of the more pressing economic and political impacts of crime. This survey said that most people in the suburbs fear the physical consequences of crime whereas people in poorer areas such as informal settlements fear loss of property.
