The police brutality of African Americans has shaped American history from the civil movements of the 20th century to the power movements of today’s society. The injustices of blacks reached a peak in the 1900s as a fight for equality and civil rights fueled deeper. Blacks were free from slavery but still weren’t seen as equals in American culture. The law is intended to protect it citizens but in that time blacks had no favor with the law and police. The same issues of inequality before the law and social acceptance have ignited a the modern day push for rights and fair treatment. Police brutality of African Americans has been rebirth rebirthed into the American society through the ongoing racial injustices, fight for equality, and the abuse and misconception of power.

In today's society, it is not uncommon for police officer misconduct, including brutality, to gain everyone's attention. When one officer shoots and kills a suspect, that officer is investigated in order to ensure there was no intentions to harm anyone but to try and keep the peace. Intentional harm to citizens is considered police brutality and can escalate into something more serious such as riots and protests. Minorities in the community have been subjected to violence by law enforcement in the United States for some time. This violence is called police brutality and it is unacceptable. The job of a police officer is to maintain public order, prevent, and detect crime. They are a part of a dangerous and stressful career that can involve risky situations that must be controlled. Sometimes police are put in situations that excessive force is needed. Some officers use these extreme measures in situations when it is not needed, police brutality should be addressed by testing police for for racial bias, require more training, and use body cameras.

On the other hand there are many policemen and women that are doing their jobs to the best of their ability and succeeding. Though every now and then you will have a policeman or woman who just takes advantage of what they can do. That alone is a social justice for them to act out on it and take it out on innocent people especially people of a different race, is just terrible. There 's a large sense of pathos in this argument. Police brutality is not a new problem in the United States. It has occurred throughout history and has affected all genders, ethnicities, and races. Recently, however, police brutality towards African Americans has become a controversial topic in the news media, and has prompted heated discussions and angry public outcry about race relations and civil rights throughout all sections of the country. Ever since the Michael Brown shooting in 2014, which was caught on camera and viewed widely on national television and on social media, the police have been under scrutiny by both the news media and the general population to stop their use of physical force and unnecessary violence when apprehending and confronting criminals.

Is there really justice in America? Where is the justice for all the victims of police brutality? Why are the police officers always getting off easy for doing unjust actions towards blacks? Where is the justice for Rodney King, Alton Sterling, Michael Brown Jr., Eric Garner, Sean Bell, Tamir Rice? Those are just some of the victims who have died in the hands of officers from being beaten or shot to death for minor crimes or just being a person of color. The reasoning to my questions is that we always find excuses for police officers for their unjust actions.

Police brutality today is very controversial issue which is very easy to hide because of the authority they possess. Issues that tie with the Sandra bland story, Black lives matter movement, and racist police brutality all come back to racial equality. Racial equality is the belief that individuals regardless of their racial characteristics, should be treated fairly and equally, therefore meaning it is a mutual respect to all races; issues of police brutality date back to the 1930s in America (Racism no way , 2015 ).

Police brutality is causing economic issues all across the United States because of the high number of civil complaints and sues in the last recent years. Although it is true that the costs vary from place to place, it is still people that have to pay for the errors of others. The Cost of Police brutality is showing the great amount of money that is fluctuating in New York due to the excess force from police officers and each year the amount goes up compared to the last year. Although it mentioned just the case of Francis X. Luvoti, a police officer from Bronx, New York, it illustrates the exaggerate amount of money that these police officers are costing because of the bad decision and excess of force. In his case, it mentioned that officer Luvoti were indicted for criminally negligent homicide for choking to dead to Anthony Baez. Officer Luvoti Kill Mr. Baez because he hit his police car with a football, as a result Mr. Baez’s widow sued the city for the amount of thirteen million dollars. In addition, the investigation that the Department of Justice opened against officer Luvoti found that he was subject of a dozen brutality complaints including, slapping a twelve year old child. This suggests that police departments need to revise and change the procedures across the country “[b]ut brutality will only be stemmed when the department, from the top leadership down, shows a consistent determination to enforce its own disciplinary codes” (The Cost of Police Brutality, 1995). It is clear that police brutality is causing a lot of problems among community, and economic issues are exempt. The reasons why police brutality has become an issue is because police officers are violating citizen’s rights, killing innocent lives, and abusing their power of authority. How many more lives are to be taken in order for people to realize the injustice of the law enforcement.

Police brutality is an issue that’s very important in America and it’s happening in many different states all over the country. It shouldn’t be happening at all, and in order to fix this, we have to start somewhere. Police brutality is when a police officer uses any type of force on someone that exceeds the necessary amount to accomplish a lawful police purpose. The force doesn’t have to just be physical, it can also be physiological harm through intimidation tactics. So in simpler terms, police brutality is when a police officer uses more force then what they should use to stop a person or animal.
