“A social problem is any condition or behavior that has negative consequences for large numbers of people and that is generally recognized as a condition or behavior that needs to be addressed.” (http://open.lib.umn.edu). Dealing with social issues are one of the biggest problem society has, because individuals have different opinions on how to fix them. This is a dividing factor in the United States. People are divided and several have different opinions on social issues like LGBT rights, gun control, and immigration laws. For example, with LGBT, many people opposed to it believe it is “a choice you make,” while others believe it is about who one loves. The issue of gun control is a big problem in today’s society. The most significant thing that alcoholism damages over time is the brain, the most important part of the body. The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism states that, “Alcohol interferes with the brain’s communication pathways, and can affect the way the brain looks and works. These disruptions can change mood and behavior, and make it harder to think clearly and move with coordination.” (www.niaaa.nih.gov). Drinking too much alcohol can impair one’s judgement, making bad ideas sound like good ideas. Many times when bad decisions are made, alcohol is involved. Drunk driving is one of these terrible decisions that is made when one drives with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that, “In 2016, there were 10,497 people killed in these preventable crashes. In fact, on average over the 10-year period from 2006-2016, more than 10,000 people died every year in drunk-driving crashes. In every State, it’s illegal to drive with a BAC of .08 or higher, yet one person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 50 minutes in the United States in 2016.” (Yoder). But overcoming alcoholism can be hard, not only physically but also mentally.
