Social Loafing- I think that social loafing happens a lot in high school and college in group projects. Maybe not as much in college as in high school because people know that they need to help achieve a grade or goal. I have seen, when I was in high school, that others did not want to help get the goal that everyone was working towards. I especially see this in the boys in high school I think that most boys think they can just slide by without doing as much work when in a group setting. I personally did not let this happen in my group projects but I know girls that did because they were interested in the boy or wanted to make a good impression.
Groupthink- Groupthink to me can be a good thing if working on a sole purpose to something simple. Things like a group project for school or solutions to a simple problem can use groupthink to come to a easy solution. But if trying to solve big solutions like everyday workers and a CEO solving company problems groupthink will not work. I think that to avoid groupthink everyone would need to separate, think, present, and re-organize to achieve the best result.

I remember being in track my freshmen year of high school. The only time I was talked into doing track. I am not a runner. I somehow got convinced by the coach to run in the 800 meter race. I thought I would be fine and in practice I was doing well, slowly getting better and faster as time went by. When the first meet came up I came in last in my race. I though having others to race would have increased my performance but it was the opposite. I guess having new runners around me I did not do my best on this simple task I had been preforming for
With my relay team stretched,warmed up, and ready to go, we headed towards the stadium where we would race against the fastest girls in the nation. Intimidated but not deterred we headed out of Tent City and into the gates of Turner Stadium. Knowing this was my last race I would run with my close friends and relay team, being it 's the last race of the season and we all weren’t going to be in the same age group next year, I had a whole new mind set. I was constantly thinking, “we have to make top ten because we can make top ten.” “We have the times, we have the strength, we have the speed, we just need to have the guts to walk in there like we are going to shred the track into pieces.
Of course, as you'd expect I got fourth place in that race. Bummed from the results I learned to keep my head high and keep working I mean I was just a freshman. In the end track taught me that there's always someone better, or faster you just gotta work harder than them. My final sport that I have a passion for is rugby.
I had been working hard and really felt like a part of the team. The first real challenge I faced was trying to live in the shadow of my older brothers. Who both had success in their running careers. It was the third race of the year and I was running in the varsity race against our conference rival. To me, this race was a chance to prove I was an important member of the team and could possibly lead the team as captain in the future.

During my final year of Cross Country around Regionals at Oglethorpe, I ran my final race for my high school career. Banks County was nearly number one in the State, the furthest we had ever ranked in history, and spirit and hopes for State Championship were high. I was nervous, like nobody’s business, I had messed up during my senior night because I was upset for my parents for not showing up and escorting me. And I was scared that I was going to do horribly. But as I ran, I realized that if I let my past mistakes and failures hold me back or get in my way, so I ran, harder and better than I ever had before and apparently even beat a “skinny kid”.

I was an eighth grade girl who was running the same workouts as the junior and senior boys. My team won the conference meet and I won all conference honors. We went on to place second at the section meet, which earned us a place at the state meet. I earned all section honors myself and missed going to state as an individual by only a few places. In the classroom I help those who need it if I have a complete understanding of the topic. If I don’t I will ask the teacher for help. When working in group projects I will usually take the lead and assign everyone a part to work on. Every so often I will check in to see that they are in fact getting their jobs done. For my second experiential learning assignment, I decided to break a social norm while going out to eat with my family at a restaurant: granted this is something I have a habit of doing but the reaction I got from my dining mates was particularly interesting this time. To give a little bit of background of the setting I was in at the time, I was with my mother, younger brother, and my mother’s friend at a restaurant in DC for my birthday dinner. The restaurant was crowded, but not many people were paying attention to what we were doing. The behavior I decided to break was dipping my fingers in the container caramel was in and then proceeded lick my fingers after doing so. I was super excited about it because of all of the hard work and countless sacrifices I had put in for nine years, but what I was not expecting was lots and lots of drama. I spend a lot of time with the girls on the team from 6AM practices to 8 hour meets so we are all very close, almost too close. One of my classes my first at NC State demonstrated this. In COS 100 there is a semester long group project. Having partners who care about their education was a welcome change of pace from previous experience and made the experience enjoyable. I experienced a similar situation in CH 101. Additionally, COS 100 makes the case that working together and communicating is the best way to advance the sciences.
For our group and our shared love of food we figured that a social norm that had something to do with that would be perfect for us. We decided that the norm to drive through a drive thru needed to be tested. Why should cars be the only ones with the fast access to fast food at their convenience? We believed that people should be able to walk through the drive thrus if it is more convenient for them.
Deviance is a term used when a person violates a social normality. Deviance can be minor or they can be extreme. Using public behavior for example, if a person were to walk around without shoes in public, it would be considered odd and deviant behavior. Or if a person invaded someone 's space it would be considered rude and questionable behavior. My reasoning for not breaking social normality is simple: to break a social normality would be considered odd and I would rather not be percieved as such.
