After reviewing tons of application, I have one thing clear they all ask, what is your race and, what is your gender. These forms of question help the interviewer or the one who reads the application know a little more of who is the person. In reality these questions are used in society to determine one’s, social location. The definition of Social location is basically your status in society and it is determined by race, gender, and class. While these are important to shape one’s social location they do not provide a full description of one’s life. In order to have a fuller description of one’s social location their background and family is equally important. As we know where we come from shapes our mind and who we are. My social location has …show more content…
For instance, I work amongst the rich, the wealthy, the poor and the moderate and I have learned that all of these different classes lead individuals to look at things in a different manner. For example, when you apply to a high standard career, you might hand in the application and think if it’s for me they will call me, while society pushes you in other direction. Society sets you to think that if you don’t fight for that job and have the best skills you won’t get hired. Therefore society, has created a competition amongst us is more like first come first served, the best gets the best and if you do not have what it takes then strike out. Due to this we all strive to have the highest degrees, or best qualification even do other stuff to get what you want. Competition is good in a way and bad in another, because society doesn 't set your mind to settle for less, but have you ever thought when is it enough.
In conclusion, I think that race, gender, and class can partially determine a person, however, does not determine one 's personal life or social location. The book Class Race Gender Crime (2015) states, “A person may be white, but multi billionaires are different from those considered white trash.” In other words, race alone cannot define one’s social location because their are other factors that differentiate the two individuals and this is why other factors should be included in order to define one’s social

Social Location is a big part of people lives. they show why the person is the way they are, think, and act. For example, Tom Buchanan, his location category differ from most people. Tom Buchanan social class is wealthy and is old money. Tom is married to Daisy.
But my family resided in a country environment. Most of them lived out in the country, some have moved to the city, but their origin resides where they grew up. I have visited my family out in the country and it was what I expected, large amounts of land and animals grazing in the coral. I would say my families culture, and how they
Eert is a small, peaceful river valley that believes strongly in religion and takes pride in its culture. Citizens rely on their Tree God, Branchy, to grant them good harvests, hunts, and rain water. As long as citizens please Branchy with their annual sacrifices, they receive what they pray for. Citizens rely mostly on farming for their food, although hunting is common. The land is very fertile and is great for farming because of the flood that occurs once a year and the rain that certain areas of the island receives.
Some may that geographical affects identity more since that the place you lives influenced your way of thinking of what the environment wants you to believe in than what you want to believe in. In Tehran, Iran six young Iranian men and women were dancing to the western song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams soon after to be arrested. Ruled by an religious leader, western things is considered an taboo. It causes Iranians to be controlled that these things are wrong, and shouldn't be done in the public eyes. Everything seems perfect like that, however, geographical location lumps everyone in a haystack; making it seems that everyone has the same problem; everyone in that area are going through the same problems: family, money, food, and bills plus
According to Guardian Newspaper, “ ...poor white Americans are more likely to reap the benefits of living near areas with better resources and higher incomes, while poor black Americans tend to live in relatively isolated inner-city neighborhoods.” But, everyone has the same opportunity. Individual opportunity is not a myth because: no matter where you live, how much money you make, or what your education level is, a person can be successful.
Race is the social construct of social identities. We distinguish the uniqueness of individuals in such ways that our genotype and phenotype are closely associated to classifying these individuals into a particular race. Our culture, physical characteristics, and ethnicity separates us into five different categories of race: Black/African American, Yellow/Asian (including Pacific Islanders), Red/Native Americans, Brown/Hispanic/Latino, and White/Caucasian. Throughout history, darker complexions were often looked down upon. White skin becomes more favorable and are seen to be more superior than the other colors, creating this ideology that justifies inequality.
Social Stratification is a system by which society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy. In other words people are ranked according to their wealth or prestige. Social Stratification has beneficial consequences for the operation of a society. That’s why we have a certain form of social stratification in every society. The jobs in modern societies vary in form of importance, prestige and wage.
One community I belong to that has always been somewhat of a defining group for me growing up has been the ideologies established by living in a town like Rye. Growing up in Rye and living here my whole life, I was raised in a sort of small bubbled society where the dominant focus for young children was the importance of being superlative- the smartest kids; the most known; the most athletic; the most cultured; the funniest- have always maintained glorification while those less-so remain unidentified. In a way, this ideology that being the best is synonymous to being approved of was deprecating to those who strived but failed to find something that gave them appraisal. To people entering Rye and watching this societal mindset, it seems as though
Introduction: Who Am I? Every person in the world has come to be where they are in a different way. Each possesses different traits and characteristics that influence how their lives will carry out. These different characteristics make up an individual’s social location.
On the whole, I believe competition is good in school because it allows children to work together as a team, it helps children stay active, and it makes kids strive to be better. I strongly believe that we can keep competition in the school system. However, I can not control what decisions adults make.
THESIS: As a product of society’s “equal” meritocracy, we must find a scale for our actions by comparing our successes and failures to others, creating status anxiety, resulting in our idea of success being relative to our peer’s success. We base our own self worth and value too much on the outside influences and how others view us. We can no longer look in the mirror and see ourselves as we are, we unconsciously compare ourselves to what is “perfect” is based on ideals from our friends, family, and the media. We are constantly being presented with the image of perfection and the steps and rules needed to achieve it.
Using laws and legislations to try to change the outcome is not only anti-competition, it distorts the law of the nature; survival of the fittest. We need more of Steve Job, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Jerry Yang, David Filo, Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass in this country regardless their skin color or origin. In order to finance all the Affirmative Action and welfare programs, the government increases the taxes to a point it is no longer desirable to be Americans. U. S. citizenship was once the most sought after citizenship in the world. Now, record number of the richest and the most talented Americans are giving up their U. S.
It is somehow hard for us to discover the beauty of nature in Hong Kong, the hustle and bustle city. Only when we put the work or stress away temporarily, can we truly feel how beautiful the place we are living is. As a pessimistic person, I often get stressed easily. Usually I would put myself in a quiet place, away from the crowds and the hardship I am facing. Tai Po Waterfront Park is the place that cheers me up.
