Entertainment and communication often go hand in hand and there is never a lack of want for them. With the advent of social media, such desires have been fulfilled in a variety of ways from options like funny tweets to silly snaps and favoriting posts. To many, social media had become a convenient utility that had improved their lives . Those most impacted would ,unsurprisingly, be the teenagers. Their lives can easily be compacted into these platforms which are filled with some of their best memories, their friends and the things that they love to see daily. Consequently, they spend hours refreshing, obsessing, and sharing on social media. Of course, from a general perspective it may seem like a waste of time if not a tad silly to be so invested, but not overall harmful or damaging for teenagers to be on. However, there is a darker underbelly to these platforms that can be quite insidious for teenagers, but few see outside of the obvious issues such as bullying. The reality is that these social media platforms are gravely affecting teenagers mentally in ways that were not truly considered when the advent of such platforms gained popularity. Social media platforms have grown tremendously with each passing year, with more people being able to access the internet, which in turn means that there are additional accounts contributing to this onward trend.
