The Media A billion people use the internet everyday and on average an American teenager spends about 11 hours a day on some type of social media. The media has a substantial impact on everyone's life owing the fact of the amount of time we all spend on the internet. In knowing this the media should give positive images and messages but, does the media actually do that? Or are they too worried about making money and getting viewers. From “Toddlers and Tiaras” to “The Kardashians”, are these explicit images of how women should be viewed and how men should view them. The media makes it seem like looks is the only meaningful characteristic about a person, and that having the best body and showing off that body is the only way you will be noticed. …show more content…

I believe there’s ways to fix the way our society is going, it won’t just be fixed in just one way, it will take multiple procedures and different mindsets. We need to start by addressing the issue to as many people as possible, everyone needs to at least be aware of what they are actually letting into their brains. Everyone has their own opinions on social media, they may really enjoy, they may hate it, and some people may not even use it, but they should know what the owners of these companies real agenda is. The biggest way we can stop the brainwashing is by hitting these companies where it really matters, their bank accounts. If they don’t have money they don’t have a way to publicise, and they won’t be able to say or do whatever they want because they won’t have the money to back it up. Hitting them in their banks account could simply just be deleting a social media app, or returning a game, or to discontinue watching a reality show. The last way we can stop this is just by us, if we are aware of everything then it is up to us to change it. It’s up to us to stop overly using types of technology, and it’s up to us to stop putting down others and making them feel less confident because they don’t look like a computer edited picture. The media needs to be aware of what they’re putting out there, and people need to realize how they’re helping them achieve their goal. These companies need to see the outcomes of their actions because they know what they’re doing but they’re to drowned in the money to see how it is hurting people. Now all social media isn’t bad, it can help you connect with family members, friends, and employers, but the serious problem is the power they give men. They have showed us that men are allowed to insult women with names like; ugly, hoe, slut, and even a bitch. Women’s confidence shouldn’t be decided by a man, but the media has made it so they do have that kind of power. The media giving this specific gender all this power makes it so women are considered less, instead of each gender being equal. You could compare the media to drugs, it’s fun at first, but then you get addicted and then it becomes harmful. The only difference is the media isn’t a substance, instead it makes men be perceived as judgemental, and demeaning, and women as weak and insecure. We as a whole need to understanding what is happening and end
