What is a social movement? A Social movement is a trend and a process by which the people express their aspirations and ideologies. These group’s actions are large, informal, and focus on the political and social issues. It is spread of new ideas, in bringing changes in the society. Objectives of social movements in Assam Its objective was to detect and expel the foreigners from the state and economic development of the region and its peoples. Madhavadeva’s subsequent conversion to Vaishnavism is considered as a great movement in the history of Neo-Vaishnavite movement in Assam. Madhavadeva, an equally multi-talented person, became his most celebrated disciple. Neo-Vishnavite movement caused a huge social revolution by fighting against anti-social elements like Casteism, as people of all castes and religions, including Muslims can adopt Vaishnavism. Baptist Missionaries of America came to Calcutta and it was hoping to find access to china, were preparing to move up to the Chinese land but due to some problem it was abundant to move. So it reached the north east India in 1836 from Burma, in this way they still believe that they had been led to a fruitful place and began to set printing press here in Assam. Baptist established them in Shivsagar and Published a Journal Orunodoi or Arunodoi. Orunodoi was a journal which influenced the Assamese society in various aspects edited by Nathan Brown; its language was Assamese and published from shivsagar in 1846. It supported Assamese literature and it became an indicator of modernity, but the main aim of the magazine was the propagation of Christianity and another important fact that about Orunodoi was it opposed the conception of calling The Assamese language as an offspring of Bengali language.
