2. Definition
Social Network is a website or application which allow users to communicate with each other by posting information, ideas, messages, pictures and other important stuffs. Besides, social networking is also the method of improving one's business and/or expanding the number of social contacts via connections through individuals.
According to the Computer Hope (website), social network is a website that allows individuals to communicate with each other. They can make new friends, talk, share information and share ideas through social media. Compared to traditional media, social media can be created by hundreds to millions of different people while traditional media can only be created by no more than 10 people.

Historical Background of Social Network
The Early Years
In 1978, the social networking began with the Bulletin Board System (BBS) The BBS was hosted on personal computers, the users have to dial in via the modem of the host computer, using phone lines to exchange information with other users. This was the first system that create a platform allowing users to sign in and interact with each other.
After few years, the first copies of web browsers were published through Usenet. Jim Ellis and Tom Truscott were the people who created Usenet. They created Usenet to enable users to post articles, news, or posts. Usenet was different with BBS and forums because it did not have an administrator or central server to manage itself. Today, there are modern forums which is similar to Usenet, such as Google Groups and Yahoo! Groups.
In 1988, the first version of instant messaging was launched. It came with Internet Relay Chat (IRC). IRC was Unix-based, making most people have limited access. Its function was link and file sharing. It also used for generally keeping in touch with one another.
