Unlike today’s society, different types of clothing were reserved for a certain occasion. Queen Elizabeth had huge impact on women’s clothing because she wanted women to seem “virgin-esque.” In order to seem “virgin-esque” women had to cover their bodies and couldn’t seem provocative. Another group who influenced clothing was prostitutes. They started trends such as wearing platform shoes and tight clothing (“Daily Life”).

Over the past 50 years, our sense of style has evolved tremendously. With the evolution of fashion has come dress codes and what this society thinks is appropriate clothing choices. Many women and girls are faced with the everyday challenge of fitting into todays society. This article definitely showed how women need to stop feeling degraded by other people, equality between women and men, and also how us women should have a voice in what we want to wear.

After World War I, women’s fashion took a turn and prospered into an exciting and new vibrant style. Society previously held tight boundaries on how women should dress. There was no law to the way they could dress, but simply that their morals were tighter and they had an unspoken, common knowledge before the 1920s of how women should dress appropriately.

The fashion of the 1920 s is a reflection of peoples extravagant lifestyles and elevated thinking. It was an exciting time to be a woman because more freedoms and opportunities were available, not to mention woman gaining the right to vote . There were new patterns of clothing, bras,and smaller corsets not to mention that most of the clothing was made by the woman themselves. Through the years woman have stayed at home and not had much involvement in the society.

In Niger it is widely accepted for men to have what is called a fifth wife, which is a term used for a human female slave. Though it is legal to have more than one wife, having a fifth wife was illegal and it is still widely practiced and looked over. I believe this is what an informal norm would be. An informal norm according to the text is a behavior that is generally widely conformed to. Men conform into the 'social norm' that it is okay to have more than one wife, and that its accepted to have slaves.
