With little of self-esteem can leave people feeling unhappy. It can also lead people to make bad choices, fall into negative relationships, or fail to live up their full potential. But what about having too much self-esteem? Selfishness can certainly be offensive and can even spoil personal relationships. Self-esteem levels at the extreme high and low ends of the spectrum can be damaging, so the ideal is to strike somewhere in the middle. A realistic yet positive view of the self is often considered the ideal. But what exactly is self-esteem? Where does it come from and what influence does it really have on our lives? Self-esteem is used to describe a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value. Self-esteem is often seen as a personality trait, which means that it tends to be stable and enduring. Self-esteem can involve a variety of beliefs about the self, such as the appraisal of one's own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. As you might imagine, there are a number of different factors that can influence self-esteem. Genetic factors that help shape overall personality can play a role, but it is often our experiences that form the basis for overall self-esteem. Those who consistently receive overly critical or negative assessments from caregivers, family members, and friends, for example, will likely experience problems with low self-esteem. The relationship between procrastination and self-esteem has received considerable attention in the procrastination literature. Procrastination has been described as a self-protective strategy that masks a fragile self-esteem, and numerous studies have found a significant inverse relationship between self-report
Having self-interest is part of being human and “the purpose of morality, she argues, is to teach us what is in our self-interest, what produces happiness”, this sentence also ties with the words “self” and “ego”. Having an ego or being an egoist has its limits, though. People should care for themselves, but also care for others because ego is more of a balance in which one can’t work without the other. The beneficial side of ego is that it “constitutes the essential identity of a human being” (Rand Introduction) but the detrimental side, according to visionlaunch.com, is that it can “completely eliminate objectivity”.

Hardships: are difficulties, struggles, problematic situations, facing obstacles, all the downs in life. Hardships can influence someone’s life by building up one’s character. In Enrique’s Journey , Enrique, a determined, persistent and young guy, faced many harsh obstacles. Starting off with getting across to his mother. Passing through drugs, turf wars, starvation, and being poor.
Chapter two in the textbook Reflect & Relate an Introduction to Interpersonal Communication by Steven McCornack talks all about what “self” is and how to achieve complete fulfillment for one’s self which is also known as self-actualization. The components of self, as described in the book are, “ . . . self-awareness, self-concept, and self-esteem” (McCornack 39). Self-awareness is the idea in which one can take a moment to move feelings, beliefs, and other external influences aside and just evaluate oneself in a holistic perspective that is not skewed by opinions of others, etc. Having the ability to actually think about who one is brings a lot of power and mental stability in such a way that allows for improvement.
Numerous times, we see people and we think the worst thing first. Luckily for this week’s case study in the book, The Social Work Experience, An Introduction to Social Work and Social Welfare, by Mary Ann Suppes and Carolyn Cressy Wells, LaTonya was graciously given the opportunity to remedy her problem instead of the social worker just giving up on her and removing the kids. When Lauren offered LaTonya the help she needed to make decent choices, she empowered her to be the driver of her own success. In my experience we tend to be more successful when we feel as though we fixed a debauched situation instead of being made to fix the situation.

The first way would be that self-worth is based on how competent children perceive themselves to be. The second way is that self-esteem depends on the amount of social support they receive from those around them (Charles H Zastrow, 2013). Keyonna was having trouble realizing her self worth because of the lack of support she was receiving from her family about her simply just trying to be herself. Her self-esteem began to decline, which lead Keyonna to think negative thoughts about herself and her life. After moving out of her mother’s house, Keyonna was able to begin building her self-esteem back up to where she wanted it to be.
It is the decision made by an individual as an attitude towards the self. Possessing little self-regard can lead people to become depressed, to fall short of their potential, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love, but, results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failures. no other self-help topic has spawned so much advice and so many theories. I have experienced many events in my life that have evidently shaped me into the person I am today. Whether these occurrences have been overwhelming, disheartening, or thoroughly exhilarating, they reciprocate the monotony that would be present without them. The significance of each memory illustrates something new that is to be gained. Through such occurrences, I have learned to be more appreciative and welcoming to other experiences that are to come. They have influenced my life and caused an impact on my personal morals and principles as a person.
In Mcleod’s article, it said that people “‘think about, evaluate, or perceive’ themselves” (Mcleod 1). Mcleod talks, in the article, about how people thinking, evaluating, and perceiving about themselves is call self-concept. Whenever people think about themselves, most of the time, people are confused about whether or not they are pursuing right actions for their future, especially people with low self-esteem . Furthermore, people get more confused if their actions dramatically differ from others. However, again, people’s actions determine who they are, so even if their actions are dramatically different from others, it may be a path for that person’s success.
These issues are discussed below. Esteem This is an experience of feeling less than or better than others. People who have very low self-esteem suffer from a wounded core. They think they are worthless - that everyone is better and more valuable.
The self can be defined as ‘an organised, consistent set of perceptions of and beliefs about oneself’ (Passer, Smith, Holt, Bremner, Sutherland & Vliek, 2009, p676). We should aim to understand ourselves, learn know how we function
B: Body image is socially constructed: In medicine, the human body is viewed as a biological entity made of several organs, each has a specific function. In contrast, sociologists believe that the human body is socially constructed. In this sense, the human body has two dimensions: biological and social. The first refers to the way the body carries its biological function and the later refers to how the cultural and societal values shape the body to carry out social functioning.
