Introduction
Entrepreneurship or entrepreneurs exist through the interpretations made by individuals, groups of individuals and different cultures in a society. Story telling can be traced back since the birth of the human beings. Robin Bruce 2017, in her article on the importance of entrepreneurial storytelling quoted the view of Howard Gardner, “Stories are the single most powerful weapon in a leader arsenal”. The most significant story one will ever tell to its stakeholders or investors is one entrepreneurial story. When people invest either in the shape of money or time in a company or in a product, they are investing at least a part in storytelling. Companies are not just snapshot in time, they are positioned with in a narrative. One

Social constructivism is a sociological theory of knowledge, and it also illustrate that entrepreneurship is constructed through the interaction between individuals. The idea of social constructionism can be seen back to nineteenth century reactions to the dominating positivist view of science that was formulated in the wake of the Enlightenment. Social sciences argued that individual and social phenomena cannot be studied only through observable behavior but also through the subjective minds of individuals. There has been long debate going on, concerning the current concept and methodology of entrepreneurship which have been questioned (Davidsson et al., 2001). Most of the conventional research of entrepreneurship is relying on one level of analysis, however, there is a multilevel research as well which connect individual and context. In relation to the general management literature, some people hold the point of view regarding multilevel research as an obvious component of entrepreneurship. The below case is going to focus on the legitimacy building particularly in the initial phase of startup. Culture has been traditionally theorized as a force that constrains rather than enables action. Researcher have studied the relationship between organizational culture and performance, in the field of strategy, but have generally neglected meaning-making aspect of culture having to do with identity formation and legitimacy. Entrepreneurs face the challenges associated with lack of legitimacy and external validation due to uniqueness and novelty of their business. Stories play an important role, to cop-up this problem of legitimacy and validation. Stories that are told by entrepreneurs create possibilities for newly established business in ways that can lead favorable interpretation of wealth creation possibilities of the venture. This enables resources flow to new enterprises. It clearly shows that; the origin of entrepreneurship comes from social interaction between different individuals and it also gives the idea of social constructivism. The basis of social constructionist perspective is clearly on assumption of ontology, epistemology and ideology (Steyaert, (1997) Chell and Pittaway, (1998); chell et al ). Ontology position of social constructionism is that entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs are subjectively and
“Even as a child, I enjoyed comeback stories where people overcame adversity and against all odds achieved what they sought. I was always rooting for the underdog. The greater the challenge, the more I liked the story. However, I could not fathom that one-day, I would be the fallen one trying to claw my way back.” Jorge Newberry began enterprising at the age of seven, dropped out of high school at sixteen becoming an enterprising entrepreneur as he rose to the top building a vast financial empire.
Rushkoff hits the climax of his manifesto, at this point he give suggestions to the CEO’s reading his essay. Rushkoff uses soda companies as an example of presentism. “Less like Coke with its connection to legacy and advertising, more like Pepsi with its focus on social media and the now” (Rushkoff 118). Businesses in the digital age need to realize that money is a resource that promotes your enterprise.
Before dissecting the purpose and motivation behind the inclusion of these conflicting stories, we should first analyse characteristics and similarity of these legends. Upon closer reading, the similarity between both sets of legends, as well as the individual stories themselves, are rather apparent. All of these stories involve individuals who started out in life running small businesses at the periphery of society: concessionaires, immigrants, and newsboys. The origin of the invention tends to come from unexpected places, whether it is reflexive responses to emergency situations of running out of sweet cream and ice cream plates, a spark of unexpected inspiration to combine two unlike foods, or the power of a child’s imagination while attempting to have fun. Most of the individuals then choose to capitalise upon their discovery, improving their invention, selling their ideas to large corporations, or building their own factory and becoming prosperous business owners.
There are an enormous number of theories about how people learn, assimilate and understand new information. Two of the main theories that underpin Scottish Education and the Broad General Education are Cognitive and Social Constructivism. Both theories emphasise the importance of group or co-operative learning and a progression beyond that of the archetypal classroom whereby the teacher stands at the front of the class and lectures the students. Whereas Cognitive Constructivism allows for learning to take place between the learner and the environment, Social Constructivism also argues that learning is framed through culture, social interaction and the Zone of Proximal Development whereby learning occurs through interaction with a more knowledgeable
In 1968, both Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated, leaving the United State in a state of uncertainty. With a nation in need, the Woodstock Music and Art fair arose in 1969, standing against the background of the past year (Evans and Kingbur 20). Max Yasgur, a dairy farmer who leased his farm to the Woodstock promoters, once said to the millions of fans at the festival, “The important thing that you've proven to the world is that... a half a million young people can get together and have three days of fun and music and have nothing but fun and music, and I God Bless You for it!” (Gerdes 4), and that is exactly what the crowd of more than 400,000 fans did.
This week I met with a social worker at Cherry Health which is located a few blocks from Heart of the City. When I met with the social worker we did a role playing exercise. She played a client that was experiencing depression and sadness. In addition, she role played as a client that she typically work with at the agency and I role played as the therapist. I enjoyed the role play because I was able to receive feedback about my progress.
The Importance of a Company’s Culture The culture of a company is one of the most important and sometimes overlooked factors in an organization. The culture can increase employee engagement and increase productivity which will allow a company to reach its goals, “From productivity and engagement in the organization’s day-to-day, to an employer brand that naturally fuels recruiting efforts, to creating a lasting brand that customers immediately recognize, there’s no escaping it – culture radiates outward into the marketplace” (Straz 2015). The culture can have a great impact on the employees. Employees thrive in a positive working environment and the ability to engage with their managers without fear of retaliation.
Corporate culture is heavily dependent on the values and vision of the entrepreneur. It is very much related to the vision and mission statements of a company in how the company wants to be perceived by its stakeholders and how the company wants to achieve its visions. The entrepreneur is the one responsible in how the company conducts itself and therefore is the one responsible in setting the culture of the business. The behavior, actions, and interactions of the members of an organization emerge from the meaning that the reality of that organization has for them. Therefore, a good corporate culture is essential to creating a healthy and thriving workplace, where the workers an inspired to work for the good of the company.
Collectivism in Brave New World In the book Brave New World,by Aldous Huxley, the essence of humanity is questioned. The World State completely destroys the whole concept of being a human by taking away the people's individuality. Collectivism is a fundamental element of the society in Brave New World.
The most surprising thing to me about entrepreneurship in this book is the assertion by Randy that the business is like creative work like printing, and not necessarily a financial institution. Many people think that the importance
Greene and Lee (2002) states that when considering the social constructivist approach an understanding of the way individuals function within society is important to appreciate the meaning they ascribe to their experiences of society and culture. Dean (1993 suggests that knowledge and meaning are created and influenced by institutions within the environment. From this individual suffering from mental illness will create their reality and will then view future experiences through this (Dewees, 1999) As previously explored dominate members of society determine values, beliefs and norms that is supported and maintained by that society. Kondrat and Teater (2009) suggest that if individuals do not ascribe to these they are considered ‘abnormal’
According to the Dictionary, Sociology is defined as the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. This means that people are willing to study social problems throughout the world and the society that they live in. Because of who I am, I definitely have been a part of a different upbringing and lifestyle that many sociologist may find interesting.
