Introduction In my opinion, social stratification is something that always happened in daily life, with or without we notice it. The meaning of social stratification itself is a way that people made a ranked and order in society (Lisa, 2017). Social stratification sometimes can make a person try to be on top of the stratification itself and make that person greedy. Because in this era, there’s stereotype if we on top of the stratification, we can have everything that we want. And that’s why, a person can be greedy and can make the stratification go wrong. Also, it can make an inequality in social system. Especially, in Javanese culture and society. The Meaning of Social Stratification Social Stratification in general means a differentiation that society made to give a population in a specific class. With a social stratification, we as a people who lived in society’s belief that in an environment must be having a social stratification that makes people, at least can know how to behave in order to make them feels suitable in their society. According to the expert which is Marxian Theory, they are 2 basic theories of Social Stratification. The first one is called a Ruling Class (the Haves) and a Subject Class (Have-nots). In Ruling Class, their exploits the subject class. Which means that the Subject Class are at the lowest point because exploitation activities. Because, the ruling class has a power from its ownership and control the forces of society. (Saheb, 2017) And the last one is called a Subject Class. Because in Jogjakarta there is a palace or a kingdom that still adheres to social stratification. In the Jogyakarta Palace itself, there is a social stratification that has existed for a long time. The first is Santono Dalem. Santono Dalem is the uppermost group consisting of the prince's family or the ruler's family. An example is Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. He’s now became the Leader of Jogyakarta Palace and occupies the highest social stratification. Second is Abdi Dalem. Yogyakarta Palace requires state apparatus from both civilian and military groups. Abdi Dalem is a civil apparatus, while his military apparatus is a palace warrior. Abdi Dalem served as the operational executive in every organization formed by the Sultan. Without Abdi Dalem, the wheels of government will not work. Third is Prajurit Keraton. If Abdi Dalem is from civilian, Prajurit Keraton is from military groups and their job is for keep the palace in order to stay safe and to escort if there are certain events. And last is Kawula Dalem or people who lived in there. For Kawula Dalem is the lowest stratification among the others (Editor, 2016) Conclusion So, basically social stratification is a way that people made a ranked and order in society and for some reason it is important because it will have impact to society. For people who want to be on top in social stratification, they must have wealth, honor, power and knowledge.
