Respectively, in my mind, I have created a picture of perfect example of social worker. If I had a possibility to provide the services of social worker, motivation, social justice, and respect towards individuals would become fundamental principles for me as for social worker. It is primarily needed for the social worker to have sufficient motivation for providing assistance for others. Only those persons who have profound responsibility while providing this assistance and deep understanding of necessity of doing their job deserve to be social workers. Also, in my imagination, social justice is one of the most fundamental principles of social worker, in particular of me being a social worker. This is social worker’s core duty to support vulnerable or oppressed people in order to contribute to enhancement of the quality of their life; in other words, this duty can be represented as establishment of social justice within the society. What is more, it is important for every social worker to have a respect towards people, as only those individuals who are able to demonstrate respect towards people can provide appropriate help for those people who need this
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has defined six key values for social work practice: service, social justice, the importance of human relationships, dignity and worth of the person, and competence. Social justice is an essential core value within Mission Australia in guiding its programs and campaigns. This is exemplified by Mission Australia addressing and educating the community on social injustice and disadvantage, pushing for systemic change to enhance the lives of marginalised and at-risk individuals. By offering services and programmes that aim to address the underlying causes of social problems, like education on homelessness, Mission Australia exemplifies the fundamental concept of social justice and why it should be addressed not only by charity organisations but the general public. For instance, their housing and homelessness programmes work to give those who are homeless or at risk of becoming so safe and affordable accommodation in which donations of the community are accepted.
Social workers have several responsibilities. They have to provide service, justice, and dignity to a client. They have to possess integrity, competence, and patience. Social workers need to possess knowledge of human rights, and how to perform scientific inquiry. Social workers occasionally have cases in which problems ensue and a solution is not found within a certain time frame.
The National Association of Social Work created a code of ethics that guides social workers on what core values that they should uphold during work (NASW, 2008). When discussing social welfare policy’s, the NASW code of ethics can be applied to immigration due to social justice being one the core values. Social justice consists of fighting for rights for individuals who lack the access to resources. The immigrants that are discussed in the articles, have a lack of social justice due to the deportation. This is where social workers need to step in adjust the privileges and distributions within society.
The following ethical principles are based on social work's core values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (NASW, 1999). These principles are to be used when assisting clients and their needs. Social workers also should be attentive of the impact on ethical decision making of their clients' and their personal values and cultural and religious beliefs and practices. They should be aware of any conflicts between personal and professional values and deal with them responsibly (NASW, 1999). Ethical dilemmas are
The whole system focus of social work is universal, but the priorities of social work practice will differ from one country to the next, and from time to time depending on historical, cultural, political and socio-economic conditions. It is the responsibility of social workers across the world to defend, enrich and realize the values and principles reflected in this definition. A social work definition can be meaningful when social workers committed to its values and vision. Thus social work is amazingly a meaningful career.

The obligation of a social worker is to be aware of individual differences as well as cultural and ethnic diversity while treating each client in a kind and courteous manner (Kirst-Ashman, & Hull, 2012, p. 412). In relation to the ethical principle of Clients who Lack Decision Making Capacity (1.14) the obligation of a social worker is to protect the rights of individuals who have been deemed “legally incompetent”. Everything done by the social worker should be in the best interest of that client (Kirst-Ashman, & Hull, 2012, p. 402). The core value of Social Justice is important do address because it ties in to many parts of the book. Social change efforts from the social worker are necessary in order to promote knowledge and cultural competency about the injustices and discrimination of individuals incarcerated in Crownsville hospital as well as the injustices and discrimination of Henrietta and the rest of her family (Kirst-Ashman, & Hull, 2012, p.
Introduction The goal of social justice is to combat oppression by focusing on equitable treatment and equal opportunities (Benner, 2022). The social work profession values advocacy and service as methods to combat oppressive practices. Oppression is apparent in all aspects and systems of our society (Hatcher et al., 2022). The existence of oppressive practice within the social work profession is debated, with many supporting the existence of oppression in social work practice.
Despite social workers best efforts to keep their feelings in check and to respect differences, being confronted with situations in which their values and morals conflict with those of their clients is a common scenario. For example, one may feel uncomfortable dealing with clients because of his or her sexual orientation. This issue arises because of the practitioner’s religious affiliation which results in the practitioner being unable to accept homosexuality. Another example, a pregnant client, ask her pro-life social worker for help obtaining an abortion. As the act of abortion conflicts with the social workers’ values, they may feel torn.

Correspondingly, it will guide me to provide my clients with the ability to make informed consent. Additionally, this value is important to my future practice because it ensures that I become an advocate for my clients in every capacity, including human rights. Lastly, as a social worker, I will ensure that I work towards my clients being free from violence and the threat of violence (Heinonen & Spearman, 2010, p. 34). This is as to how the social worker and the population interact. It involves the people making sense in their interaction. This theory enables the social worker to study the behaviour of the people he or she is involved with. This is demostrated on her role as a consellor and educator.
So the social worker attains a big responsibility to help a person to restore his meaningful interaction with a society and to restore his suitability in the community. Hence, if a social worker’s goal is to help to restore the violated feeling of dignity, his success depends on his ability to follow the values while creating a reciprocal relationship. Theoretically this goal is not difficult to reach because it is everyone’s duty to respect others and their dignity in spite of his activity nor choices of values, as every person is
As social work professionals, we have a commitment to advocate for our clients. Because of our advocacy commitment, we also should be committed to social justice.
