This was seen as one of her most important historical quotes which depicts her views about women’s rights, no matter the color of a person’s skin. Sojourner Truth was later told by her owner that she needed to marry an older slave whose name is Thomas and this relationship made Sojourner Truth have more kids whose names were Peter, Elizabeth, and Sophia (Krass15). Slavery was soon abolished in New York but her slave owner was reluctant on giving Sojourner Truth the freedom she so rightfully deserved. This led to Sojourner Truth escaping with her infant daughter named Sophia while her other daughter and son Peter stayed behind. Once she escaped she shortly heard afterwards that her son Peter was sold illegally to a man in Alabama so she fought for her son and won whole case to court (Mckissack and Mckissack 48).
