Abstract— Water is the basic need for sustaining life on the earth. This communicating article reviews desalination by solar still and the recent studies on Performance of solar still systems. With the passage of time due to rapid industrialization and civilization, their waste disposal along with ignorance of human being caused water pollution, which led the world towards water scarcity. Solar Distillation is one of the best Techniques to resolve this problem from available another techniques. But, due to its lower efficiency it cannot be commercial in the market. Some Modifications can be done to improve the solar still Performances. With the help of past research work we can conclude that if we are using multi layer absorber type solar still …show more content…
A solar still duplicates the way as rain water i.e. evaporation and condensation. Saline water is filled in the black painted basin of the solar still. Over the years, many researches have been carried out to find out ways into improving the efficiency of the process. Solar distillation uses, in common with all distillation processes, the evaporation and condensation modes, but unlike other processes energy consumption is not a recurrent cost but is incorporated in the capital cost of the solar collector. Saline water is filled in the black painted basin of the solar still. This is enclosed in a completely air tight surface. A sloping transparent cover is provided at the top. Then solar radiations are allowed to fall on it. Solar radiation is transmitted through the cover and is absorbed in the black lining. The distillator is designed so that an efficient amount of solar radiations gets trapped inside it. The solar still therefore, is of a simple design, construction and maintenance with ease of operation. It is best suitable for regions of the world with high solar intensities. The mechanism of operation is based on the transmitting, absorption and reflective properties of glass and other transparent materials. The glass has the property of transmitting incident short-wave solar radiation which passes through the glass, the glass being a medium of transfer of heat. Sun’s rays penetrate a glass surface causing …show more content…
al. [1] an attempt is made to model a conventional solar distillation system and comparing the experimental results with simulated model. Solar distillation is an old process, but cost wise and for domestic purpose it is most reliable one. Evaporation and Condensation is the simultaneous process occurring in solar distillation. The property of the distilled water is measured. It is evident that, the distilled water produced by solar still is quite resembles the commercial distillation water. Experimental work was compared with simulation study. Temperature distribution over the glass is verified with Computational Fluid Dynamic approach using Ansys. The computational result is validating with the experiment
Characteristic property- Test 1- distillation Materials: Goggles, 250 ml beaker, 10 ml graduated
Using the thermometer, the temperature was measured and recorded. Then, the 25-mL graduated cylinder was filled with 25 mL of distilled water, and its mass was measured and recorded. The density of the water was found using the temperature and the Density of water index. Moreover, the calculated volume of water was calculated using the formula of density, and the difference between observed volume and calculated volume was found. This process was then repeated using the 50-mL beaker and the results were recorded.
The Wastelands is segregated with species from hundreds of Realm Worlds and rival nations. These uniform militias employ their home world technologies to fortify their kingdoms from feuding enemies. Ruled under a totalitarian dictatorship they often launch campaigns against neighboring kingdoms resorting to guerrilla warfare tactics. Once the kingdom is toppled the captors are systematically enslaved consequently expanding their future reign. Several are capable of traveling to their worlds through the use of Realm Portals.
Globally, tackling this problem will take some serious reform in the way we use fossil fuels for energy. Therefore, I have a few proposals involving the use of albedo and solar panels that should they be adopted in
Introduction The intent of this experiment is to understand how hot and cold water interact with each other by combining clear hot water and black ice cold water. I hope to learn more about how hot and cold water interact with each other. As of now, I know that cold water is denser than hot water. Knowing this I formed my hypothesis.
Considering the amount of water and energy that the Colorado River is able to provide to so many areas, we need to also consider the risk of a permanent destruction of this natural resource. We need to find other resources such as solar, and wind energy to substitute the use of fossil fuels. In particularly for the areas were the Colorado River is located, Solar Energy could be a great resource. They are several of semi-arid desert are located throughout the area of Colorado. In 2007 “The Nevada Solar One” was able to build a Solar Plant providing employment for over 800 people, and after the construction was completed.
In the next steps the density of water between 30-40 °C, 40-50 °C and 50-60 °C was measured. Then our results ρ vs T and also density vs temperature values given in the Steam Tables were plotted on the same graph in order to compare. In the second part the density of water was measured by density bottle. The densities obtained from the experiment are 995, 992.5, 991, 990 kg/m3 for the first part and
This liquid is mixed using large paddles to mix air into the mixture and oxidize it. When the indoxyl is oxidized, it turns into indigotin. Indigotin is denser than the rest of the liquid, so it settles to the bottom of the vat. This pigment is then sent to the third and lowest vat. To prevent the pigment from fermenting, it is heated in the vat.
14 vials were used for cotaining samples. When the distillation was proceeding at a moderate speed at about the wanted temperature, the receiver was replaced with a vial as the condensed vapour sample (V) and the thermometer was read. Half of the vial was filled with the sample. The stopper of the distillation flask was removed and using a dropper to collect the liquid.
This coil has an electrical resistor which resists the flow of electricity, which in effect converts electrical energy into heat as energy goes through the coil. Due to this, the heat energy produced by the resistor heats up the water within the kettle to boiling point. The heating element is controlled by a bimetallic thermostat, which contains a variable resistor inside it. Integrated at the bottom of the kettle, it consists of a disc of two different metals bonded tightly together, curved in a particular direction. As temperature inside the kettle rises, one metal expands faster than the other, set up in a manner
Rediet Legese iLab Week # 6 CRUDE OIL DISTILLATION Introduction: The aim of this week lab experiment is to experiment distill crude oil and to check how temperature determine the chemical properties of crude oil plus how the boiling point can also show physical properties. They are two major finding in this experiment. he first finding was the point at which the raw petroleum is heated to the point of boiling, at 275 0C, the gas and kerosene oil are refined, however the oil (lubricant ) stays as an unrefined feature oil.
The thermal distillation process uses heat to evaporate water and then later liquefy again. When there is leftover heat or enough electricity available, as is often the case with factories and power plants, thermal distillation is a well-organized and workable
Scientists have found that renewable energy is a path towards the future for a clean and safe environment. Throughout all the studies and findings, there is a continuing fret whether people should be able to use a traditional way of energy or renewable energy, solar power. Solar energy is seen to be effective since there has progressively been more places that are benefiting from solar usage; however there are also some who disagree. Solar energy sources are derived from natural sources and is implicated throughout our daily lives. From the lights in the streets to the computers we use at home.
Introduction As we already know UV (aka sunlight and artificial UV lighting) can cause forms of skin cancers. It seems to be common sense now days but we really don’t know how or why specifically and we also don’t really know what preventative measures actually work. As we grow up every day we expose ourselves to sunlight but unless we are going out to the beach or pool, we don’t take preventative measures to keep our skin safe from radiation and some are even attempting to do the complete opposite for beautification.
Abstract — This experiment was conducted to familiarize the students with the procedures regarding distillation—to be more precise, the separation of ethanol from an alcoholic beverage—using a distillation set-up consisting of boiling chips, a Bunsen burner, a condenser, a thermometer and several other materials. In the end, it was discovered that one may actually separate a homogeneous mixture, given that the components of said mixture differ in volatility and that they utilize a complete distillation set-up and follow laboratory safety rules and regulations. Keywords — Matter, homogeneous and hetereogeneous mixtures, distillation, volatility, boiling point I. INTRODUCTION There are typically two categories of matter, these are pure substances
