The amount of radiation hitting the earth in three days is the same amount stored in all fossil energy. Solar energy is a free resource that produces new ideas. The first use of solar power was to produce heat. A scientist Horace built the first thermal solar collector in 1767, which was later used to heat water and cook food. The first commercial patent for a solar water heater went to Clarence Kemp of the US in 1891.
Crystalline silicon is well known as solar grade silicon it is the most prevalent bulk material for solar cell. The bulk silicon is separated into multiple categories according to crystallinity and crystal size in the resulting ingot, ribbon or wafer. The concept of a p-n junction is entirely based on the cells. C-Si made of solar cells are made from wafers between 160 and 240 micrometers chunky, which make the first generation cell has high sustainable and it can demonstrate to collect the sun’s light very often. The commercially predominant PV technology, which includes materials such as polysilicon and monocrystalline silicon.
Nuclear power seems to be an answer for global warming, but concerns about terrorist attacks on Earth bound nuclear power plants have intensified environmentalist opposition to nuclear power. Earth based solar panels receives only a part of the solar energy. So it is desirable to place the solar panel in the space itself, where, the solar energy is collected and converted in to electricity which is then converted to a highly directed microwave beam for transmission. This microwave beam, which can be directed to any desired location on Earth surface, can be collected and then converted back to electricity. This concept is more advantageous than conventional methods.
According to (Wikipedia.org 2014) the sun is the most important source of renewable energy available at this time. The sun provides energy for all living creatures on earth. For example, plants absorbs solar radiation from sunlight and converts it into stored energy for growth and development. This process is called photosynthesis.Solar energy is a light and heat from the sunlight collected and converted using a wide variety of technologies such as artificial photosynthesis, solar thermal electricity, solar architecture, solar heating device and solar photovoltaics. Scientists and engineers today works extremely hard to develop ways to utilize solar radiation or sunlight directly by converting it into useful heat or electricity.
The Advantage of Photovoltaic Cells The power source of Photovoltaic cells is great to use because it converts the solar energy from the sun into electricity directly. Energy is released by positive protons that are freed from the semiconductors. when they are freed this lets out a burst of energy. This is an effective way to produce energy because each individual cell produces 1 - 2 watts of energy. This is a compact way to produce energy because of a solar module.
The Sun provide Earth with large amount of energy enough to power the great oceanic and atmospheric currents, the cycle of evaporation and condensation that bring fresh water in land and drives water flow, and the typhoon, hurricanes, and tornadoes that so easily destroy the natural and built landscape. Sunlight can be converted into electricity by exciting electrons in a solar cell. It can yield chemical fuel via natural photosynthesis in green plants or artificial photosynthesis in human engineered system. Concentrated or unconcentrated sunlight can produce heat for direct use or further conversion to electricity. Figure 1.1 shows the solar photons convert naturally into three forms of energy which are electricity, chemical fuel and heat.
Mono-crystalline cells are obtained from pseudo-square silicon wafers, substrates cut from boules grown by the Czochralski process, the float-zone method, ribbon growth, or other emerging methods. Multi-crystalline silicon solar cells are traditionally made from square silicon substrates cut from ingots cast in quartz crucibles Crystalline silicon cells are made from thin slices cut from a single crystal of silicon (mono-crystalline) or from a block of silicon crystals (polycrystalline). Now a days the CST is the most common technology representing about 90 percentage in the market. Its efficiency ranges between 15% and 23%. Two main types of crystalline cells can be
Here, is it discussed about the off grid wind solar hybrid power system and how and why it can be taken into account in Sri Lanka is discussed in a nutshell at the latter part. Producing electricity using solar energy and wind energy? Solar energy: Solar energy is free and also it is the prime source of all the other energy sources and is unlimited. The heat generated by the Nuclear Fission on the sun is radiated onto the earth. This radiation carries a lot of energy which Tis about 10,000 times the energy
Solar energy is quite humbly the energy created directly by the sun and collected in a different place, typically the Earth. The sun creates its energy through a thermonuclear process that converts about 650,000,000 tons to hydrogen to helium every second. The process creates temperature and electromagnetic pollution. (Dmguion, 2011) The heat remains in the sun and is
The introduction of nuclear energy on a larger scale could be the answer to the globe’s electricity needs. This could reduce the use of fossil fuels as well as generate a sizeable amount of electricity. This report looks at different methods of generating electricity and takes an in-depth look at nuclear energy, the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the sustainability thereof. 2. Other sources that generate electricity 2.1 Coal • Coal is currently the largest generator of electricity globally, producing approximately 36% of the world’s electricity.
