The air pollution problem especially at big cities is the urgent affair not only of some countries but also of the whole world. And one of countries has the high rate of air pollution mus be mentioned is Vietnam. The actual situation of economy- society development in Vietnam leads to the seriously bad effect to environment in general and air pollution in particular. So the urgent issue today is finding out the solutions to improve as well as preserve the environment. First solution must be mentioned is using public mode of transportation: Encourage people to use more and more public modes of transportation to reduce pollution. Public transportation also offers the largest opportunity and the most efficient means for making major strides in environmental quality, especially in the urban such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city or densely populated suburban areas with the worst pollution. The direct environmental benefits of public transportation come primarily from two factors. Firstly, public transportation systems burn less fuel on a per person basis and therefore produce less pollution. Secondly, the diesel fuel and electrical power used in public transportation systems are less polluting, unit-by-unit, than the gasoline used in most private automobiles or light trucks. In parallel, government should have policies to enhance the public transportation system such as a metro network, a modern bus rapid transit system.
