Air pollution happens when gases, smoke and dust occur in the atmosphere making it dangerous and hazardous to all living species. The atmosphere serves the earth with protection. Without the atmosphere, it would be impossible to live. Pollutants are the matters that cause air pollution; there are two types of pollutants, primary and secondary pollutants. Primary pollutants are particles that are pumped into the air making it filthy and unclean.
The seven types of air pollution considered the greatest threat to human health in the United States, and the first regulated by the 1970 United States Clean Air Act, include sulfur dioxide, particulates, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, ozone, and lead. Air pollution is the main cost of pollution in the world with many factors affecting it. There have been acts to destroy air pollution but is still stays as the number 1 problem in the case of pollution. Many people oppose the existence of air pollution saying it’s probably caused by other source including those that aren’t man made. Also, some opposers say that air pollution is made up by cooperate companies to increase the cause of more natural resources, but this is just a blatant conspiracy.
For almost a century with the rapid growth of technology, the increasing pressure from population and the development of heavy industry, air pollution has become the extreme serious problem in the whole world. Slanina (2013) states that due to the chemical waste gases from factory and vehicle emission from traffic pollution, which not only bring negative effects to the public it also reduce the living quality and air quality. In this day and age, the problem of air pollution has aroused public’s concern, especially in several developing countries such as China, India and South Africa. This essay will discuss the adverse effects of air pollution and give some potential solutions about
Throughout research and over the years, air pollution has been through big discussions. It’s been a very well known topic, but there’s not much being done about the problem. Air pollution can seem like such a small issue, but it leads to so much more than just bad quality air. It leads to global warming, affecting climate changes, personal along with environmental health. Air pollution can fall into three main categories.
Air pollution is the most dangerous type of pollution today which has secondary effects just like global warming. Water pollution on the other hand is a harmful effect like air pollution but not as grave. Both types of pollution have effects that are more harmful than the other. Global warming is the most famous effect that pollution plays a huge role in. There are non-believers in pollution and in global warming creating just conspiracies and no actual facts.
The first type of pollution is air pollution. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency (as cited in Vallero, 2008, p. 3), air pollution is the presence of contaminants or pollutant substances in the air that interfere with human health or welfare, or produce other harmful environmental effects. Air pollution always consists of a whole range of pollutants, gaseous and particular alike. Common pollutants which are major public health concern include particulate mass and some gases like ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxide, and carbon monoxide. The sources of these pollutants include household combustion devices, motor vehicles, industrial facilities, forest fires and pesticides.
Introduction Clean air is considered to be a basic requisite of human health and wellbeing . But, worldwide air pollution continues to pose a significant threat to human health. WHO has defined air pollution as contamination of the indoor or outdoor environment by any physical, biological or chemical agent that modifies the natural properties of the atmosphere . Air pollution is a major environmental risk to health. If we can reduce air pollution levels, countries can reduce the burden of disease from stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and both chronic and acute respiratory diseases, including asthma.
Air pollution can also cause many problems such as chest pain, congestion, throat inflammation, cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases. Cooking, our vehicles, excessive burning of materials, and the smoke/smog from our chimneys all pollute our air and our daily lives. A chemical called Sulphur dioxide is released in the air by the smoke from chimneys, factories and our vehicles. Another pollution that has a big toll on our Earth is water pollution. As industries dump industrial waste into our rivers, creeks, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water it causes an imbalance in the water leading to the severe death and contamination of aquatic species.
Leow Lay Shiang CEA150061 Group 29 DISCUSS THE EFFECT OF AIR POLLUTION ON HEALTH Introduction Air pollution occurs when the air comprises harmful gases, dust, smoke or substances which impurify the air. Pollutants are the substances that cause air pollution. The substances can be in solid form, liquid, or gases and it can be of natural origin or man-made. Pollutants that are released into our atmosphere and directly pollute the air are called primary pollutants. Carbon monoxide from car exhausts and sulphur dioxide from the combustion of coal are the examples of primary pollutant.
In the broader sense the term air pollutants mean those chemicals that have toxic health effects and does not present in the air naturally but they released into the air by through some human activities directly or indirectly. Air pollution is linked with several health effects that include respiratory illness, cancers, heart disease among the people who are exposed to polluted air (Climate and Clean Air Coalition and WHO 2016; Brimblecombe & László 2005; Chen, Goldberg, & Villeneuve 2008). Air pollution can be caused by several factors including industrial emission, forest fire, domestic combustion equipment and emission through transports and the list is virtually endless (WHO 2017; Daly & Zannetti 2007).
