Hawthorne, M. (2011, April 1). High levels of toxic lead found in air outside Chicago school.
One of the largest issues that our society currently faces as it moves towards the future is the issue of air pollution, and its effects on our daily lives. A negative externality caused by our dependence on modern technology, industrial fields, and engineering, this increasingly dangerous impurity is harmful to both nature and people. Air pollution is a constant problem all over the United States, especially in the larger industrial sectors such as large cities where fossil fuels are constantly being burned by factories, motorized vehicles, and power plants. In the state of Utah, air pollution is a constant problem caused by many different factors, such
There’s a vast amount of issues going on in the state of Texas and no one seems to make an innovation. One of the biggest issue in the state of Texas is pollution in our cities. Based on my outside knowledge, no person seems to bother to make a change in our ecosystem. People seem to care less on how our environment’s health is and focus more in themselves, which is causing a more serious problem. Maybe not in that same time, but thorough the years, it’ll not just cause an issue in our environment, but also among ourselves. As an example, air pollution has been one of the main issues we face and choose to not attend.
Air pollution pervasively impacts humanity as a global society. It results in minimized quality of life and initiates instability within the environment . Air pollution causes extensive detrimental health effects on the residents of Southern California, especially on select sensitive individuals, and has significant adverse impacts on the environment of Southern California.
Mott Haven which is 1.181 mi² have been primarily a residential neighborhood in the southwestern section of the Bronx borough in New York City. Zip codes include 10451, 10454, and 10455. This site includes various things such as provisioning services, regulating services, cultural services, and supporting services. This site is also full of water sources, natural gases, and very biodiverse which are being polluted by human activities.
Along with food, water, and shelter, the air we breathe is essential to life. If we do not have clean air to breathe, we will become ill and even die. If we do not prioritize the air we breathe, the pollution tragedies such as what happened in Delhi last November 2016 and the Southern Plains during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s will strike again. Humans’ indifference, attempts to improve their life, or both. Sometimes when people try to improve human life, they end up harming it; in finding solutions to these man-made problems, we must consider short and long term solutions.
Contaminated air in the U.S. threatens Americans’ lives. Over several decades, our air has improved. However, the air is still harmful to everyone. Pollution from factories that use coal are a major cause of air pollution. One of the most dangerous issues with air pollution is dust and soot. “African-Americans are about three times as likely to die from exposure to it” than the general population (Stein). Polluted air can destroy the ozone layer that protects us from the sun.
The air pollution is attached with government and people. According to the Canadian encyclopaedia, the sources of air pollution include industry, transportation, domestic activities (e.g., heating, cooking, wood smoke), agriculture (fertilizers, blowing dust, pesticides, herbicides, animal waste, farm odours) and forestry (pesticides, forest fires). Air pollutants are substances that, when particle present in the atmosphere in sufficient quantities, may dangerous impact on people and animals. Government try to reduce the emission by implementing some laws. Most Canadian provinces and the federal government have formal air quality regulations in place such as Clean Air Acts. These acts specify emission standards and ambient air-quality
The most dramatic and detrimental incident occurred in London Fog. A temperature inversion covered the Thames River Valley; the deadly acid aerosols were trapped in the atmosphere, more people died from this incident over 4000 people died because of the deadly temperature inversion that settled over in London. It was recorded that over 4000 people suffered from bronchitis, Pneumonia, and respiratory diseases. This incident was an alert to the British parliament, immediately the burning of soft coal was barred in London.
Residents of East Asia experience the influence of their environment, both physically and socially. Air pollution in East Asia has raised many concerns in its severity throughout the world. Cities such as Taiwan are accredited to having the some of the dirtiest air quality on earth due to the island 's extreme population density (Pulsipher & Pulsipher 2012, p. 340). In order to meet the energy consumption demands coal burning as well as the production of coal has ranked China in accounting for 40% of all the coal burned on the planet. (Pulsipher & Pulsipher 2012, p. 340). The dimension of air quality has a great impact on the inhabitants. Due to the poor air condition, commuters in Tokyo wear masks for protection against poisonous chemicals
Water is the most important component found on the surface of the earth because it is source of life for living creatures. However, water pollution has become a global concern. Water pollution can have several forms from diverse sources. It is expected that there will be a lack of clean water in next few decades due to pollution. Nile river water in Egypt is the focus of attention of many studies due to many reasons. The first reason is because it is water used by over 13 million inhabitants in Cairo, as well as, other cities. The second reason is that, the Nile is the longest river in the world, flowing northward from its source in Tanzania to its outlet in the Mediterranean Sea, a distance of 6695 km. The Nile water source is tainted by pesticides, sewage, nutrients, and heavy metals. One of the most important causes of Nile contamination is discharging of industrial facilities (Mohamed et al., 1998). Factory waste contains heavy metals such as, Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu), which cause toxicity. In this essay, the discussion will point to Nile contamination as a controversial issue and highlight some health problems which occur as consequences of using polluted water in Egypt. Likewise, the essay will raise some scientific methods to determine the percentage of heavy metal in water supported by example. Then it will suggest some chemical technical solutions to reduce the percentage of heavy metals in Nile and reuse it again for many purposes.
We all know that it is impossible for pollution to be 100% gone since the cause of it is also from nature itself. But there are always solutions as to how to reduce pollution. It’s unbelievably foolish to know that pollution is the number 1 cause of death, and yet, pollution solutions are relatively low-cost. It’s great that we already have many companies trying to end pollution. Other companies try to be more eco-friendly and, for example, use plastic that decomposes faster. But that still won’t get rid of pollution. Not everyone needs to stop doing any activities that causes pollution. But, everyone needs to at least try to reduce the amount of activities they do that cause pollution. Simple acts from using common transportation to reusing plastic bags are extremely helpful to our environment and future environment. Start acting now before it’s too late. Pollution may be a threat, but it can be solved in our
The invention of the automobile has brought more positive and negative effects than any other invention throughout transportation history. Transportations have changed the way people live all over the world. Automobile companies have created numerous jobs all around the globe. Automobiles have affected all aspects of society such as family life, the economy, and even the environment. The advancement of automobiles over time has directly affected the advancement of society as a whole. Society relies intensely and increasing on private motorized transport, vehicles are expected to become safer, more luxurious and powerful. These expectation, however do not take into account of the ensuring consequences such as greater emissions of air pollutants and greater exposure of people to hazardous pollution that causes serious health problems. All the evidence points to the magnitude of these adverse effects on health and to the need to identify solutions that both reduce risks to health and meet the requirement for mobility. This creates a major challenge to the governments, public health organizations, environment authorities and most importantly to the design engineers. Automotive emission related air pollution must be reduced before its effects on health can
Specific Purpose: I will inform where air pollution takes place, how it affects us economically and how we can help keep the air cleaner.
The air we respire contains mixture of natural and man-made chemical, physical and biological elements that modifies ambient air quality. Among all air pollutants, the most threatening for human health include particulate matter and gaseous pollutants such as carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide (WHO). The movement of people into urban areas and the growth of industry within these areas has carried more people into contact with air pollution than any other time in recent memory. High concentrations of air pollutants can cause instant physical symptoms such as rapid pulse and restricted breathing but, even the presence of trace amounts is considered detrimental to health (Levy et al., 2000).
