Devastation Trail has a distance of 1 mile (1.6km) round trip of paved path, which boasts beautiful landscape of lava molds and cinder and cinder cones. The unique native plant and animal life can also be viewed while trekking. Kīpukapuaulu Loop is a 1.2 mile (1.9km) trail that takes you through a "Kīpuka", and displays some of Hawaii’s oldest vegetation and rarest animals. Crater Rim Trail is the longest of the trails with a distance of 11-mile (17.7km) and loops Kilauea 's summit caldera. This trail takes you through an active volcano, while showcasing diverse scenic vistas, desert terrain, and lush rainforest, along with steam vents and craters.

It happens when to volcano begins to erupt, but instead of coming out from the top of the volcano a lateral blast shoots out from the side. Next, a quickly moving avalanche of lava pours into the water near it causing the wave to travel to distant coastlines (Springer, 2005).

With the fact that settlers were also a big element in most Westerns, I feel as if they also played a factor in the Westerns that were produced in Arizona. Arizona had image of being a wild west environment. The landscape is very vast which result in many ghost towns throughout the state. With these ghost towns, it was a source of wilderness against civilization conflict in the Westerns. In films such as My Darling Clemente, there were many elements of this conflict as Wyatt and his crew traveled to the town of Tombstone.

Subduction is the process when in which one tectonic plate moves under the other, sinking into the mantle as the plates converge. Regions where subduction takes place are known as subduction zones. Subduction zones tend to have very high rates of earthquakes, volcanism, and mountain building. Some examples of volcanoes that are located above subduction zones would be Mount St. Helens, Mount Etna, and Mount Fuji. Furthermore, the strains, which are a result of plate convergence, are known to be the cause of at least three different types of earthquakes.

The clays and poorly consolidated rock make the badlands easily eroded (Graham, 2008). The Badlands National Park was formed from the deposition of these poorly consolidated rocks. After the rocks were deposited they experience a lot of erosion, and the erosion is what shaped the badlands into what we see today. In The Badlands National park you can see the Pierre Shale, the Chadron Formation, and the Brule Formation (). Within the Brule Formation there is a red paleosol layer ().
In 1869 Major John Wesley Powell, a Civil War veteran and geologist, led an expedition into the Grand Canyon to explore what he called, “the greatest exposure of the rock record on our continent.” The exposure of the “rock record” is not what draws tourists to the Grand Canyon, but it is what makes the canyon so spectacular to behold. The canyon, at its deepest is about 6,000 feet and at its widest it about 18 miles. According to the article I read, the canyon is a record of “deep” time, which means, it’s old. Powell and other geologists, knew there were three sections or “sets” of rocks that are exposed in the Grand Canyon. For example, experts say, “The three sets of rocks are differentiated on the basis of not only stratigraphic position, but also age, rock types, and overall geologic setting in which they form.” One of the types of rocks found there are crystalline rocks which are exposed near the bottom of the canyon.
I drove out to Death Valley National Park. It was declared a national park on February of 1933. Death Valley is a very hot and arid place at this time of year. The park is part of eastern California and Nevada. The northwest of the Mojave Desert is protected by it.
