What is energy? Energy is something which every human needs for doing almost every function. The two types of energies are stored energy and working energy. It comes in different forms like heat, light, chemical, electrical, nuclear energy etc. There are two sources of energy: Conventional sources of energy (non-renewable): Conventional sources of energy are non-renewable sources which are being used since a long time for many reasons in many places. They are non-renewable because they keep on depleting and cannot be renewed again. Their consumption time is faster than creation time. “FOSSIL FUELS” Fossil fuels are made of dead remains of living organisms. There are three types of fossil fuels; coal, oil and natural gas. 1). Natural gas emits some of green house gases too like carbon dioxide which cause change in climate and cause global warming. Non-conventional energy source (renewable): Non-conventional energy sources are the one which are called as renewable resources too because they can be renewed. Examples of renewable resources are solar energy, bio-energy, wind energy and tidal energy. Biomass: Biomass is a renewable resource which can be renewed easily and is formed from organic matter. It occurs in the form of living or recently living plants and waste and is contained inside the plants and animals. Conversion of biomass into other energy is done by combustion, gasification, pyrolysis, bio-digestion and fermentation. Disadvantages: They are renewable but there is risk of deforestation. It requires a lot of water. Biomass is inefficient as compared to other fossil fuels. It is not really clean or safe. Advantages: Biomass is a renewable resource. It is widely available and less expensive as compared to other fossil fuels. It can be used to produce or make different products like
